For what it's worth, I read on the AFL app, that Marley was omitted due to "family bereavement". That doesn't sound like structural reasons at all, especially given his excellent form leading up to this.

If it was so obvious a mistake why did our Collingwood coach and selection committee make it?
We're not privy to all the other factors and variables in house so that can't be answered

you're still early on in your development.... a 1000 posts is nuffin around here. It's easy to be bright and breezy for a couple of 1000 posts, but what happens when you're let down time and time again.
I guess I'll try acting like an adult and treat it like a game.. no promises

FFS some people are struggling with some perspective here. Maynard was solid and looks to be picking up the pace. It is great to have such a beautiful kick coming out of our backline. Moore got caught ball watching a number of times but improved as he game wore on. We are not going to win the flag this year and players develop quicker in the seniors than they do in the VFL. so lets rejoice in the fat Buckley is brave enough to blood young players. Those calling for players like Dwyer and Young to return, simply don't get it.
There was always a chance Port would jump out of the blocks with the emotion of the night. Even Maxy mentioned it pre-game on SEN. They played well and we battled hard and lost. The experience gained by our younger players would have been invaluable and I look forward to watching them improve.

So that begs the question: why did you comment that it was obvious?
Just playing to the cheap seats, you hardly need me to tell you we aren't in the inner sanctum, there may well have been good reasons for what the club did but for the rest of us punters we can bitch about how obvious it was

They had Trengrove, Lobbe, Westoff, Ryder, Schulz, - so what's your point?
IMO, the difference is that the PA talls, namely Ryder and Westhoff can have an impact up forward, whereas Grundy and Witts have not shown that ability so far in their careers.

We would have been smashed without the two rucks last night. Both Witts and Grundy did a huge job, in the last especially - following up taps, creating space with their bodies etc. Neither of them would have offered anything in the last if only one played against Ryder and Lobbe and around the front half of the ground Westoff - they would have been exhausted with the number of stoppages and throw ins in the game.

One could argue that maybe playing Moore made us top heavy (i disagree with this and disagree we were too tall) but Grundy coming to support Witts allowed us to get close.

Theres a reason teams are beating them this season. Trying to match them at their own game isn't the way.
We lost last night's game at the selection table. It was the first time all year where Buckley has made some bad mistakes. Hopefully he learns from it.

A few specific points:

1. We are a far better team when Grundy is in the ruck. As soon as he went into the ruck in Q1, the momentum shifted our way after we had been crucified to that point. He is a lot stronger than Witts and his follow up at the stoppages is so much better. He helps with the clearances. Leave Grundy in the ruck as we did earlier in the year. Witts unfortunately has to go back to the VFL. Whilst he was okay last night, he is too weak around contests still for my liking. P.S. NB Buckley: Grundy is not a forward. Never play him as one again. Please.
2. Team balance - got this completely wrong. Only one of Grundy and Witts can play if Moore is playing. I agree with the Moore selection, so Witts should not have played. We went way too tall last night. Way too tall. Not to mention it was raining. We played our best football earlier in the year with just Grundy in the ruck and White helping out. Last night we played Witts and Moore on top of that - that is two extra talls from what we were doing earlier in the year.
3. Picking the wrong players. I'm all for giving kids games, but only when they are ready. Maynard isn't ready yet. Moore I'm willing to persist with in the 1s as I liked a few of the things he did. We have been struggling with small forwards for the last few weeks, so why not play Ben Sinclair. A lot of you short sighted people might bag Sinclair, but he is rightfully rated extremely highly internally by the key people at the club. He was ready to break out this year until he did another hamstring. Bring him in and leave him in for the rest of the year. He can do no worse than what Toovey has done the last 3 weeks.
4. Play Kennedy - enough said there.
5. Get Seedsman's confidence up ASAP as he is super critical to us with his ball use.
6. Get Greenwood in as soon as he is fit.
7. Tell Toovey in no uncertain terms that if he keeps allowing his opponent to kick crucial goals and have huge number of shots on goal, he will be out of the team and straight into the VFL. He is meant to be our best "stopper'' but he has been poor the last few weeks. I know I said Jesse White cost us 2 of the 3 games, but Toovey arguably played the biggest role out of anyone in us losing the last 3.

My changes for next week would be:

Out: Witts, Maynard, Broomhead (inj.), Adams (if suspended)
In: Sinclair, Kennedy, Greenwood, Williams (potentially Seedsman too, but would have to find one more to omit, possibly Moore).

Or you could just admit they had the same number of talls o_O

at what height does a tall become a tall?..... officially that is.. it makes it hard to count up the talls when I'm not sure what the height requirement is

No SPIN would know for sure.

Anything over 193cms

I thought Witts did quite well as a forward last night - should've had 2 goals, and outmuscled a true FB.

I presume you can substantiate this claim.
So please show us the teams that beat them without matching their talls - I await your research and analysis with great interest.
