Sellar

Please for god's sake do not refer to him as that, remember dear old Fergus, we referred to him as the great white hope, and he turned out to be the great white dud.

Sellar is a star. The next dominant CHF of the AFL, without any doubt whatsoever.

Sorry, but that mantle will go to Westhoff;)

Apparently one of the downsides to Sellar is his Engine (lack thereof), has never really done a pre season before as he played volleyball (I think at state level) in the off season, hence the reason for his good jump but lack of stamina.

However a few years of Crows pre-seasons will sort him out :thumbsu:

I heard it was more like his desire to play football that was his main problem ?

Sellar did have the prospect of pursuing a professional volleyball career internationally, but I am led to believe his love of the game and desire to stay in Australia led to his choice of footy. Like most other Brighton Secondary kids in their volleyball programme, he only picked the game at high school. His stamina needs work, but his athleticism certainly does not. Other than his height, this is one of the reasons why he'll play as a forward not a ruckman, unless he grows a fair bit more.

There are a lot of questions over his head, but he's still very young and his upside is astronomical.

McDermott seems to think Sellar has some sort of an attitude problem, which is why he hasnt played. tried saying that it was perhaps more likely to be the lack of fitness due to his setbacks, but hey.

as I`ve never seen him play, does anyone know the inside word? apart from obviously reduced fitness at the moment is he 100% committed?

Hard to really judge 'commitment' as an outsider looking in, but I can't see why he wouldn't be.

He'll be viewable on ABC tomorrow. Named in the FP.

On sellar's speed 2.96 sounds about right but if he did 2.87 its not impossible. Patrick Ryder has ran around 2.80 in the pre-season, and from what i have read Matthew Leuenberger ran an incredible 2.77 or something around that. Occasionally player's will get a really good run and other times a bad one.

Very different to match play though, Luke Ball ran a quicker time that Judd. I think its obvious Judd is quicker on the AFL field. James was an incredible get at #14 and if he had of lasted another 4 picks i think i would have had a heart attack with excitment.

There is no question that Sellar has the natural talent to be an absolute gun player. However, when ever someone mentions his name I get remined of that day in the Shed before the PS game against Port when Craig commented on all of our new recruits. I just got the impression that Sellar might be lacking a bit. I hope I am wrong here but it wasn't exactly a ringing endorsment from the coach. But as Craig said, he is young. Very young.

Another thing that I am always sceptical about is that undersized, under age ruckman very rarely make a transition to an AFL KPP. Teams often draft these players in hope of transforming them into KPP but the strike rate of success is very low. However, Sellar has genuine talent on his side and the only thing that would be stopping him from getting there is Sellar himself.

From what I have heard Craig rates him as young in terms of football experience. If I remember correctly when we drafted him he had played less than 20 games of Australian Rules Football in his life. I hope he can live up to the hype would love him to put in some solid games in the SANFL this year.

Westhoff > Sellar

Well I didn't really 'need' a laugh after watching the 1st half of the Pies/Swans game, but boy did I get it.

Never mind the fact that he's 2 and a half years older than Sellar, he's also got less talent than Sellar has in his small toe.

I'm not going to pretend that I'm not a Westhoff fan, but wow, you're wrong. How's Boak going by the way?

Excellent, thanks for asking. :)

HAHAHA that wasn't meant to back-fire!

I'm just saying, its stupid trying to compare Westhoff to Sellar considering he has 2 years on him. And if we're going to nit-pick about first round picks, why hasn't Boak dominated yet? [/extreme sarcasm]

Sellar kicked two yesterday, happy with that for him, find his feet for a while with bags of 2-4, then start to ramp up his progress
