:D YOUNG Lions midfielder Troy Selwood has dashed the hopes of Victorian clubs hoping to snare him through the pre-season draft by agreeing yesterday to stay in Brisbane for at least another two years.

The talented midfielder, who is from Victoria and whose twin brother Adam plays for the Eagles, yesterday signed a new two-year deal to remain with the Lions.

The 21-year-old, who has played 17 games, was keenly sought by Carlton and Collingwood, who have the first two picks in the pre-season draft. The Blues also have expressed interest in Selwood's teammate Dylan McLaren.

Selwood's manager Tom Petroro said last night the young midfielder would have made more money had he been prepared to move but his loyalty to the Lions won out.

Guess Carlton knew he was going to sign with the reports of us chasing Mclaren.....Dylan come on down!

Interesting how this sets the PSD now. Will Collingwood go for Lappin now or will they try and poach Campo from Essendon.

May be something more tame with Spaanderman, Norman or Cupido going to the Pies.

Brodie and Campo on the same time could be an interesting sight...

Glad he signed as it looks like we weren't going to take him anyway and the Pies would have lucked out. Now if we take McLaren, we won't turn on our own because we chose the wrong player.
That's very true.

Dylan McLaren would have to be an almost certain #1 pick in the PSD now.
It looks that way, but it certainly leaves him in a strong bargaining position at the moment.

Is Wirrapunda re-signed yet?

Agree to a certain extent regard McLaren's bargaining power, but he'd need to be a little realistic if he's going to put a price on his head for example. He could run the risk of pricing himself out of the market.

I for one think he'd be a good backup Ruckman for us, but I wouldn't want to be paying him $200k a season from the get go.

Not sure about Wirrpunda's status.............can't really see him leaving though.

If McLaren asked for too much, I'd take Spaanderman in the National Draft. Not a lot of people have seen much of him, but I can assure you he's a really good prospect, squeezed out of Brisbane due to cap issues.

I'd think McLaren would want around 200,000 - 250,000 in the current market. There's a certain level of... well... certainty in McLaren as a ruck prospect and he might be worth that price in the short term, given the inability of DeLuca and Bryan to make an immediate impact at AFL level.

Bit harsh on Bryan there - his debut game was awesome! But I know what you mean and agree with you - Mclaren would be a safe, sturdy ruckman and a useful addition to our list.
