If you want me to use one word for Joel then it has to be indomitable. The physicality of his game is obvious, he's embraced that side from day one. But even more than that he'll go to any footballing length, never backing down or turning his head, if it will let him push the team that little bit closer to victory. Over the course of any game he can change the tide of events more than nearly any other modern footballer just through the application of his sheer willpower in football form.
