The Brodie Smith kick was awful but we had 78 turnovers. Our turnover differential of +14 must have been close to our worst effort for the year. If we are going to drop everyone that made a mistake we will have no one left.

Brodie has been our most effective sub this year (not much competition). My concern is that it is not ideal from a structural perspective to have a defender as a sub. Since none of the inside midfielders in the Twos have fired a shot when tried as a sub, imho our best option is Dowling. He can come on as a wingman and we can move Curtin into the guts.

Despite struggling against Collingwood, Hinge has the capacity to hurt the opposition so;

Out - Bond, Smith

In - Rachele, Dowling*

* I know that this won’t happen but everyone is entitled to an opinion.

Yes, that was apparent today when GWS got a run-on and kicked a bag of unanswered goals.
Yeh exactly.

The issue we have had against many teams (yours included) is that once momentum shifts, it doesn't stop because the ball goes straight back in the D50.

Funilly enough I think the teams are quite evenly matched on each line with both teams midfield being the weakness

Sorry to intrude but I assure you stoppages and clearances are the Hawks biggest weakness so don't worry
Yes, both teams have good defences and good forwards but both midfields have struggled at times.

Our loss of Rankine is balanced by your loss of Day. It’s anyone’s game on Friday.

One change I want to see is a change of our mindset. I want to see a focused and desperate team regardless of the outcome and go into the game with a positive mindset, not the stage fright mindset. Hawthorn are going to be desperate after their last loss here. Both elimination finals were won by teams that wasted a big lead but regrouped when it mattered so anything can happen in the semis.

The forwards really need to improve on their leads and positioning and the ball needs to be delivered fast and low, not the stupid long bomb rubbish.

Bring in Dowling and Rachele and take out either Bond, Taylor, possibly Hinge. I am a bit worried the coach will recall Murphy.

It’ll be an open game I expect rather than a grindfest. The team with the least turnovers likely to win.

The hawthorn game at AO was a significantly better watch than either of our Collingwood games at AO. I just don't find Collingwood enjoyable to watch and never have under McRae.

This. If we somehow make it (we're not, but IF) the booing IQ was getting Thurs night will pale in comparison to what Rankine will cop. 80k Collingwood fans will be out for blood.

Mind you, when we play them at the G next year (Because bet your house on us getting them twice) it'll happen anyway.
Which is why all their supporters getting sanctimonious on social media (over what might have been a few hundred morons booing out of a crowd of 55k) reads as very superficial. Pies fans are of course traditionally known for their moral rectitude and civic mindedness.

Looking forward to wearing the #23 at the MCG next time we meet.

But then it'll be given a free pass by the media because "Izak said a slur and he's fair game now".

If we had any form of depth, these players would be on the chopping block based on their performance against Collingwood. Instead, these players have to pull the finger out:

Keays, Berry, Soligo, Hinge, Peatling, Milera, Fogarty and Cumming.

All the above have played really good footy this year and have been a large part of finishing minor premier, but you can't disappear in a final like they did.

I'd love to say Cook, Draper, Nankervis, Dowling, Murphy or any other fringe player would be worth replacing the above, but all have had a try and been no good. Some have had more goes than others. The only one I'd consider is Draper, playing as the sub.

Pedlar and Taylor have done enough to stick with.

Rachele and Rankine are the only two obvious ins.

Presuming Rachele is available for Hawthorn, he must come straight back in.

For team balance, Rachele comes in to the starting forward line, for Michalanney.

Michalanney is a better player than Bond.

Do you choose a sub out of Bond or Smith? I'm taking a punt on Draper. Smith, with 15 years of experience, still wasted that entrance into 50 with a long bomb which was symbolic of our panic and poor play. Why not give the kid with talent, and speed, a chance?

B: Michalanney Murray Worrell
HB: Milera Keane Hinge
C: Cumming Berry Curtin
HF: Neale-Bullen Fogarty Pedlar
F: Rachele Walker Thilthorpe
R: O'Brien Dawson Peatling
I: Soligo Taylor Keays Laird
Sub: Draper

Unfortunately, Rachele coming in this week will just be a repeat of Max last week, but what can we do?

Exactly early on in the year we were the hunter now we are the hunted because of our ladder position and West Coast proved that.

Watching First Crack and I do think our fixes are simple. We’ve gone away from looking inside or taking risks with a switch, instead usually dumping down the line. There were good options to move the ball at different angles, but we were gun shy. It’s not like all of these options were under pressure either, we just didn’t look there.

Could certainly be a bit of finals inexperience and there’s no doubt that game will be huge for this group to learn from. No Rankine has dried up our I50 stoppage scoring and the major benefits of straight line play down a wing, so we need to start moving the ball differently again to find other avenues to goal.

I do remember one major switch we did take from D50 and it resulted in a scoring opportunity because it caught Collingwood off guard, so we are certainly capable of it and have the right skilled players to execute it.

There is no need for wholesale changes, this group has shown across a whole season they can adjust quickly and they should be backed into do it again. Rachele for Bond and Smith stays as sub.

You seem to have overlooked your namesake's effort in this area which was a supreme howler changing the momentum of the match.

So? You aren’t going to hit on all of these switches and sometimes make a mistake, that’s the risk you take. Ideally it’s not Thilthorpe going for these kicks either. Would you just prefer long down the line and feed intercept markers?

No chance you have a 19yo kid, whos struggling with his composure at the lower level, come on as sub in a hot final.

I actually wouldn’t do it, but I sense Hinge might be in some trouble at selection. They knew they had to sub out a back half player (shoehorned themselves because they botched selection), knew we needed to go all out attack to win, and still chose Hinge for the vest over Bond. Speaks volumes.
Hinge should be dropped. He has been hot garbage all year.
First out for me.
Playing Hawthorn means that there are clear match ups for Bond. Hence he stays.
Smith I'm not fussed on, but I'd prefer someone with a bit more flexibility. A midfielder is a better idea.
