you dont pick players in a do or die finals game based on nothing more than needing experience.

Good point. The 500 games of experience between FOG, Keays, Cumming, Milera and Hinge was invaluable last night.

I get exposing him to a finals atmosphere, but you certainly have to earn your spot.

Prioritise talent in an elite sporting environment. Are we suggesting that much less talented players like Bond and Taylor should be in because they have earned it. May as well stick with Murphy.

Who are physically ready to play an AFL final.

Draper is not.
Are they? Looked to me like they got bullied all game.

Peatling had 9 disposals. Berry had 12. And you reckon a Draper that wasn't mismanaged would have done worse than that?

Comparing Bond with Murphy is extremely disingenuous.

Hugh hasnt really put a foot wrong since he came back into the side, Murphy has rarely put one right.

Taylor performed to a similar standard last night that Draper did 2 weeks ago against vastly inferior opposition

Cut with this mismanaged crap, the kid came off an injury impacted draft year and struggled through pre season with a stress fracture in his back.

You watch his SANFL games, so you'll be able to see him lagging in 2nd halves.

Which foot did he put right last night when his opponent kicked 4?

Again, thats you changing a narrative.

He got beaten badly, and will likely be dropped for it as he should be. Let's go and put Sid deep forward on Toby Greene or Nick Watson next week.

He played 13 SANFL games and 10 AFL "games"

If he was injured maybe we should have rested him every once in a while to get him right for finals. Not, you know, mismanaged him to the point where he is cooked and out of form at the end of the year

His AFL games were heavily managed, as have been most of his SANFL games.

I was calling for Taylor to come out weeks ago and was howled down on here .
. Nice skills but not doing enough. We should have used his spot to expose more of our sanfl talent . We have been carrying him and a few others and now look completely unprepared for finals as most of sanfl team haven’t played afl this year. What a fking disaster

I disagree. I thought Taylor was one of the few who lowered his eyes and tried to hit up forwards as opposed to hacking it indiscriminately. He's a clever, natural footballer with good vision. There's a lot to work with, much more so than the players competing for his spot. He's one we need to get finals experience into.

If you look at the alternatives in the SANFL there's not a lot there. Edwards seems to be close but the other fringe players who've been tried on and off just haven't broken through. Draper is likely but isn't ready for this level yet.

Most of the others are dregs from the early days of the rebuild that are just waiting for their papers to be stamped. Crouch is gone. Smith is gone. Jones/Schoenberg/Sholl/Murphy should all be gone. Cook might survive another year. So you're left with Dowling and Nankervis who seem to be too good for SANFL, not good enough for AFL. Pedlar and Taylor are the only ones from that group that strike me as having a future.

Yes seems like a great idea to leave a potential match winner out of the side. Maybe he can play the following week once we lose. Oh wait
We should be trying to win it not hoping the lesser players picked instead can somehow improve.
If we go conservative again we deserve it
The bloke has hardly trained. Will backfire sensationally. I don’t care how much talent he has. You need some footy under your belt in finals. You didn’t see Max last night? He was a liability.

Butts, Dowling, Rachele & Cook should all be in the discussion about possible ins.

Rachele should get some sanfl minutes. Think may be best to use him as sub.

Brother and I talked about this on the way home . Does Hinge get dropped - along with Smith - and we drop Isaac Cumming back to Hinges spot

Then he asked who takes the other wing

I struggled and thought maybe ANB drops back a line
Dowling

Taylor plays the hardest role in the team in terms of getting the footy, especially with our constipated game style.

What’s his fitness like these days. Talent wise he shits all over Berry, Peatling and the current version of Soligo. Actually one grabs the footy, creates, has vision, decision-making, hits targets in space. Maybe just maybe that could start some scoring chains.

No more hacks in the midfield. Get someone in there who can use it and create some offence.

Our defensive unit, stacked with too many defenders, looked utterly lost at times
I agree they looked lost, but it was exactly the same defensive unit that smashed Collingwood's forwards a few weeks ago. I don't know what you're talking about.

I think Keane Worrell and bond played alright games individually, but as a whole they were well and truly beaten. Zero aerial presence. Lack of intercepts.

Hinge and Milera both struggled, which didn't help.

I think the entire team were just stunned mullets last night that didn't handle the pressure.

It wasn't though. We added Michalanney and it backfired.

We originally thought he could play forward then appeared to abandon that quickly as Collingwood played Josh Daicos in the middle instead of at half back

Then when it backfired we looked to play Michalanney elsewhere including defense which meant we had too many defenders, and with Smith as the sub we had no mechanism to correct it during the game

I didnt mind us trying it, God knows we bemoan Nicks and a lack of creativity.

But he HAD to go to Moore if we were gonna try it.
I guess this is another problem.

Tex was our most dangerous forward but if teams are smart, you put a Moore type (attacking defender) on him and he can't really compete with that running the other direction.

If Max man's Moore, we're basically got two players on the one guy unless we're then sending Tex to follow someone else when in a defensive setting.

Hinge was poor but I feel he has been like that for a while.

Milera had some moments he won't want to see on replay. He has a great season but as the intentisity went up he was found out again. He can't tackle unless it's on his terms. Not good enough for one of our older players.
