Our team significantly improved once we got the glacial air ball kickers out if the mid.

Nicks panicking and going back to old faithful is another sign he's not up to the job.

I may be wrong but didn't that only happen in the last quarter?
I liked that he was trying something, coz we got flogged in the 3rd quarter, and we looked better in the 4th with Laird in there. He got the very first centre clearance after we lost them 2-7 in the 3rd.

Had a dream in about March this year that we were playing a big game, what I suspect was a final. Tex, being interviewed indicated to the interviewer that he was done; "That will do it for me."

Who would have thought we would finish minor-premiers and be playing multiple finals. Who knows if tomorrow is the last time we see Tex. Hopefully its was a premonition and ends with a medal on his neck two weeks from now. First things first, beat the Hawks. Achieve the pass-mark for this year and win a final. Go Crom.

I get we don’t have a lot of other known options, but why didn’t we play Laird more in the middle throughout the year? Seems strange to say he’s no longer part of the midfield group for 23 rounds, only to be thrown back in there come finals.

It’s really a shame we wasted so many games on Cook/Jones/Murphy in the back end of the year, when we should have been playing Dowling and Edwards. We didn’t and we know the former players aren’t up for it, so now we’re one injury and out of options.
Because we needed someone who could win the ball there on the day (even if he can’t use it well when played there), given all of our mids couldn’t catch a cold, let alone the ball or a Collingwood player with the ball

Agree we had our selection priorities wrong at times over the course of the year (that said Edwards probably wouldn’t be ready for AFL midfield time yet, either way)

I fear 2025 Blight is not on the same level as 97-98 Blight
Comments he made in 97

In that qtr we had to change the structure of the team. St Kilda were a couple of goals up. With Andrew McLeod going into the centre as well it was things that you thought some day some where that if you could it as a surprise factor rather than a constant factor it might help us. And on the day Darren was just fantastic in that last qtr. once again the game opened up and we got a lot of good ball and clean ball to him. Him one out with the ball in his side he’s always going to be a danger

So Moore breaking the record for most intercept marks had nothing to do with the coaching, no worries.

What about 9 defenders?

What about our first switch not happening until the 12th minute in the second quarter?

What about us losing the game immediately after the half time break when Nicks had the players in?

He couldn't motivate them, or structurally re-set us.

Yep. This. This is what we are atrocious at. Since Crouch and Laird have left the midfield we have lost a stack of in and under grunt. Dawson and Peatling are great outside players, but we are one of the worst clearance teams in the comp and need Laird in and under. As long as he's only hand balling. Hate his kicking straight up in the air.
I don't disagree with putting Laird in the middle, but he needs to be paired with the right guys, guys who can move once he gets it out. Last week he was in CBAs with Berry and Keays, two blokes who stand still until the ball is in their hands, if Laird is put in there with Dawson, Curtin, Peatling and Soligo then it could work.

Premiership teams don't handball backwards.

If you handball backwards and make a mistake you can't fix it!

He is a midfielder and has had to learn deep forward. He has good skills and an ability to read the ball when he has had his chances in traffic close to the middle of the ground.

The reluctance by the Crows and Nicks to put some extra miles into his legs in preseasons to increase his endurance is probably a bit short sighted considering his junior days as a good midfielder. Perhaps another bit of evidence to suggest perhaps too much emphasis is placed on height when determining positions over actual ability.
We gave him a crack in the middle for a few rounds three or four years ago iirc

Back to basics

Have our set field positions ie Max back behind the ball and Laird on the HB line

Dont have Smith in the side ( but shrug)

Be pro-active on a loose player. sacrifice an Impey running for a player on Sicily etc

Remember when Crows crowds were ridiculed for being stale, old and boring.

Now were ridiculed for being too hostile.

Go figure.
It's a joke, remember in the lead up to the Collingwood game the narrative was that we were likely to get violent and abusive, they needed additional security, we had 'boiled over before' (JRiewoldt), there would be arrests and homophobic yelling from the barbarians over the border, etc. Then when the game was on, there was just the booing - how disappointing that must have been for On the Couch! So they spun it, booing is abusive, we are the worst crowd, can you believe they booed Quaynor???

If it wasn't for Merrett defecting, the media would be crucifying us right now for something.

he's not a midfielder.

we've tried it before, it didn't work

There is a myth that Smith is some kind of super sub. There is not really much evidence to suggest he deserves that tag.
I thought that once too but he makes a lot of errors and adds not much aside from fresh legs.

Would rather have a Dowling or Draper in that position, they have a much longer future at the club and any experience is good experience.
