A huge thanks for tenderising the Hawks last week and leaving them to marinate in a stew of doubt before we threw them on the bbq this week. Good for football!

Let's keep the Grand Final a Victorian thing!

Nope, bottom of the 8 for them next year-Hodge, Mitchell, Burgoyne, Lewis-they go downhill from here and at least 3 of them not replaceable-those 2 recruits-if they even get them-are nowhere near the same quality. Problems with their forward line and backline. Stuff em, couple of quiet years won't hurt them.

I'd like to believe that, still think they'll be back in top four contention next season. Those four you mentioned don't seem to be slowing down much and they've still got Cyril, Bruest, Gunston in their primes. They just ran into a red hot Dogs team tonight, could very well have been us if not for Isaac Smith.

They have lost 4 of their last 6 games. Not the hallmark of a flag contender. About to tumble off a cliff with North Melbourne.

I didn't see the game at all. Was it any good?

Hawthorns 2nd half capitulation was embarassing

Mate - they were like a washed up tired old drunk in the public bar being evicted

Ingloriously just thrown - hurled out into the street - into the gutter - and told get out and stay out ( of the premiership race )

Thought the Dogs played much better last week, just good tonight, don't agree with 'red hot'. Hodge, Mitchell-looked their age finally tonight, Lewis has been inconsistent this season, as have Breust and Gunston. Stratton, Birchill, Gibson, Smith, Hill-just ok this year. Sicily, Duryea, Mcevoy not quite good enough. Nope-they have problems ahead.
We played 2 good quarters last week. Hawks actually played their best 4 quarters of the year-a compliment to us really! We still knocked them off. Doggies only played a good half of footy-knocked them off. Hawks were lucky in 6 game? Should really have finished lower.
Lots of teams on the improve for next year. Top 4 will be be hard for anyone.

Great if you like seeing the end of Hannibal Lecter.
For 2016 anyway.
To their credit, Hawks played it to the last minute, but the final difference flattered them.
What the Doggies did last week was reproduced this week. Took a quarter longer to exert their superiority.
Kind of surreal next week, no Hawks in a prelim- I think 4 teams feel relief.
I do, that's for sure. Almost feel that next week, nothing really matters, all exhibition games, and there will be one brand new team in the GF.

In years past, Clarkson and the playing group would have just sucked it up (perhaps not the supporters). The increased sooking this season is a sure sign that not all is well.

Bomber of all people said same last week. He thought purely on the talk from Clarkson they were shot. In years past they never needed to crap on.

Andare gatti!!

Even if we lose next week, I can feel happy we played a part in ending hawthporns reign of arrogance.
The major unknown factor is how we handle coming off another bye.
That is balanced by the recent history of our very poor form the week after any wins against Hawthorn, ie, we need that week off!?
Not sure about you, but if we can't beat Ade or Swans at the G, we finish where we deserve, and I will feel pretty relaxed, and no "if only". Having Hawks out takes a lot of the stress away. The GF is going to be awesome this year, with or without us, preferably with. Not that I despise Hawthorn, I really don't any more, but, they have had their time in the sun.

Not really-first half they were both very ordinary-Dogs out of nerves, Hawks out of cooked. Doggies got going and played a few good passages but still not much of a game-strange atmosphere I thought-none of the intensity of our game last week.
So, yep, you got it right!

Thought the third quarter, when the Dogs put the foot down, was pretty good.

Yep, I thought that was very insightful from Bomber when I heard it.

The grandfinal BBQ is back on! (with or without us) God the last 3 years have been fizzers
You're not wrong, I haven't watched the GF in 3 years. Oh, I had it on the TV, but I had no interest in it and did other stuff while it was on. This year will be the first I'll sit down and watch again regardless of who plays.

What a sore loser!

Wasn't as bad when you listen to it in context. Was more saying that umpiring interpretations had changed largely to keep the game moving and that they'd need to make adjustments.

After last weeks match Matthews was talking up the Hawks veterans in comparison to Geelongs veterans based on the fact that the best players for the Hawks against us was predominantly their 30+ brigade, while outside of Lonergan our older guys didn't have their best games and it was the younger guys who lead the way.

I raised an eyebrow then and I still raise one now - now sure how it's a bad thing that our veterans weren't all in our best last week, that they have a role to play but we have a group of younger guys coming through who stepped up.

Maybe if the Hawks also had that next generation of players coming through who could stand up when the heat is on and not rely on the same old group they may have just had a better chance when coming up against younger, more willing, hard at the ball sides.

He sounded like a sore loser to me. He knew what the interpretations were and he still chose to play a style that wasn't conducive to those interpretations. This equals sore loser in my book!

Was Clarko seriously complaining that not getting holding the ball free kicks lead to the ball spilling out and the Dogs got the ball first because that's how they've been trained to play? o_O

Yeah, getting the ball first Clarko... Give it a try.
Yeah, it was poor taste...

They haven't planned for the next generation like we have. It's just a fact!
