Autopsy SEMI FINAL: Sydney vs Crows

I disagree completely.

We simply do not have another player of his profile - that is:

- blistering speed
- ability to kick goals from outside 50
- elite tackling pressure and coralling in the forward 50

I dont wish to sound like a party pooper, but I cannot see us winning a flag without him
Everyone said the same when Tippet went down. We either adapt or we are not worthy to be champions.

WOW! A lot of you are really down for supporters of a team that just produced a brilliant game and is now in the Prelims...

The pressure was immense and our boys, all over the ground, stood up and were counted. As usual when they play this well, nobody had a bad game imo. Some of the real standouts for me were...

Kennedy - as always was superb! Just when I think I've seen the best he can produce, he finds another level!

Smooch - the job he did on Betts was just brilliant... was it two touches to half time??

Rampe - all but nullified Tex which was huge in the context of this game!

Parker & Hanners - were everywhere, laying tackles, applying pressure, playing full ground defence and turning it into attack!

Benny McGlynn - what can I say... I'm sorry... I still think you're gone next year, but last night you were superb!

Heeney - OMG HEENEY!!!! In years to come, I think that he might rival JPK for greatness!

I thought our defence was excellent! Of them all, I think Marsh was the least impressive, but they helped each other, supported each other, and got the job done! Our mids were/are sensational, and our forwards were/are mouthwateringly good!

Brilliant team effort!! Great spectators game!

Carn the BLOODS!!

I bagged the s**t out of Mcglynn and I wanted him out of the side. He had an excellent game, well done to him.

I still think he's an SCG specialist, and he's vulnerable against fast sides like GWS. Let's face it, he's slow. Crows have an average midfield, and he shone in part because of that.

On the MCG against either GWS or the dishlickers I fear he will be a liability.

Anyway, that's my 5 cents worth.

As ever, the glass is half full round here again after a win! Good to see.

Kennedy. Nothing else needs saying.

I kept forgetting Harry Marsh was playing until I saw his funny head every once in a while? What did people make of his efforts?

Papley goes a bit overboard, Ballantyne style when he kicks a goal, but I'm glad he had a big night out.

Geelong are pooping their pants at having to play us. We have their measure I think.

I think Nick Smith deserves a heap of credit for last night. Eddie didn't kick his first goal until they were 38 points down, his second goal was off a bullshit free kick(sounds familiar) and his third was when the game was already won. He made a few turnovers but Smith's field kicking was pretty good aswell. I thought I saw him use a time machine back to his AA year.

Marsh is a funny one isn't he, he doesn't do much, but he doesn't do much wrong either, who was he playing on? Seemed to have kept him quiet, same could be said for the gws game too, he must be playing a good role if coaches are happy with him

Welcome to the Sydney sub-forum of BigFooty! Where the positive thinkers and optimists aren't welcomed and heckled from the stands, where pessimistic thoughts prosper and negative outlooks run abounds. If there were a forum currency, it would be negativity.

Looked like they swapped Aliir on to Jenkins and Marsh onto Lynch in the 2nd. In the end I think Aliir was almost playing as a spare, such was the impact that Jenkins and Lynch were having.

1. Those who wrote the Swans off should spend more time watching the game.

2. Jenkins is a spud where as Cameron and Betts can play.

3. Young guys turned it around and it's the reason we won.

4. Depth will be tested.

Selection committee were the spuds. Jenkins busted his ankle against North and was sick during the week but they still selected him.

Too good Swans, good luck for next week and please make that chest puffer cry.

I think Nick Smith hasn't received the credit he deserves this year because he's a bit down on previous seasons- but I think he enjoys setting himself a big task. I think he loves playing on Rioli/Betts because of the hype and normally beats the player with big reputation coming in.

He's also hinted at wanting a run in the midfield before so maybe he sadly just wants more of a challenge? Wouldn't say no to him occasionally tagging a midfielder rather than taking a small defender- but unfortunately don't see how he gets a midfield gig with so much depth.

His disposal is terrible at times

Totally agree with this! Week after week he does the job he is asked to and never rates a comment (or a vote for that matter), and then he has one bad week (along with the entire team) and suddenly he is the pitts! He is truly one of our unsung heroes...

No repercussions for negativity here - act like you're the world's smartest soothsayer when things go bad, go to ground for a few days when things go right and pretend you weren't all doom and gloom when you get back. Just admit you're trying to protect your delicate ego cos, like all of us, it hurts like hell to see your team lose and you're just trying to prepare yourself for that possibility. One thing I've learnt is the problem with that mindset is it makes watching footy draining and negative and not much fun, when it's supposed to be the complete opposite.

If there's one thing I hope people (myself included) take away from this season it's that it generally takes more than two points of data to identify a trend line. Perhaps its worthwhile holding off on completely trashing a player/coach based on just one or two performances or at least moderating your chagrin when others jump to such conclusions less readily.

At worst your contributions might have a bit more measure and credibility. Go back and read the post-GWS preseason analysis if you don't believe me. We were in line for the wooden spoon apparently.

Tippett a reasonable chance, Rohan outside chance, Macca and Millsy no chance at all.

Haha what? Mills himself said on live TV that his rehab was coming along great and he was putting his hand up for selection for next week.

Totally agree - not sure I would say we can't win without him but his absence makes the task a significantly more difficult assignment. The biggest issue is he is such a unique player that there is no like-for-like replacement that is remotely close to what he brings to the team.

I like Rohan but his value is overstated by some degree. If nothing else we should have learned by now that our fortunes rest on the ability of our midfield group turning up first and foremost. That is not to say he doesn't add anything but if our mids turn up it won't really matter who is there to get on the end of it. Will probably get howled down but Cunningham can play Rohan's role, except perhaps for the strong marking.

Big risk if it goes ping in the first quarter. Still if he can train this week without issue and pass a fitness test then yeah straight back in. Seems unusual for a hammy though to be ok.

Mills should not play, it would be a recipe for disaster.

The one that Rohan intercepted in the forward line and then ran towards the goal mouth only to miss. I don't think we have another on the list able to do that so dynamically. We have plenty that can miss like he did though.

He brings speed to what looks a slow outfit at times. I love when he stands at the top of the goal square when they are kicking out as he brings real pressure to their kicker. One club combatted that this year by manning him up at the top of the square as he is that effective at it.
