The people who tried to force us to the Gold Coast used the fact that our club's named had been stripped from us as part of their push.

We played home games all over the place and didn't even have an acknowledged location in our club's title. One less thing tying us to Arden Street.

People who remember how close we were to getting rolled know the importance of being called North Melbourne and that is why we are more likely to take umbrage at those who continue to ignore the fact our name has been restored for several years now.

We were even called just Kangaroos in certain places on the AFL website when every other club was referred to as Collingwood or Adelaide Crows. Eugene got it changed, I think. We were being ''groomed'' for relocation. There were a bunch of little things that added up.

Mr Reliable is 100% right. There WAS a conspiracy to relocate the club for several years and the dropping of North Melbourne from all media references is but one of the insidious way the AFL and their media plants paved the way for relocation.

Regarding Kingy, I see many post on here defending his love of the club. I don't see it at all. I feel he has turned his back on the club that plucked him out of the VFL. I heard that call on SEN, good on Andrew for having a crack at him. He's dead right. Don't care if he has an axe to grind, doesn't make him any less right. The way in which his fellow 'hosts' belittled Andrew after his call had my blood boiling and sent my first ever text to the station on the back of that. I am convinced there are sections of the media who maintain their vitriol on the back of the decision not to relocate. King is one of them. It's just not as open as it became between 05 and 07.

Is King a North person in the way that Dermie is a Hawthorn person? I think not.

As I have posted previously, even the Auskick registration page has us as Kangaroos, when EVERY other team is listed under their club names.

I took them to task last year and was promised it would be fixed. Guess what, same crap this year. Again been promised it will be fixed.

Told the club, thinking there would be some support to get the name corrected. Didn't even hear back!

It's insidious, and to me, it matters.

I'd love to know the ages of posters on here who are taking pot shots at Kingy. My guess is that none of them were around in the 90's and early 00's. The guy was a champion for our club and an absolute key to our 2 premierships. He deserves a bit more respect.
66 model......Kingy has the right to earn a Dollar, he is allowed to have an opinion.

And who can forget the revised version of the club song?

If we got out of the habit of saying Kangaroos, so could they. It means something, and they know it.

Andrew can ring and say whatever he likes. And I love seeing Jimmy and Phil and Stevo and Thommo and any ex-players caring for the club. But in the end, King and Carey were a huge part of a brilliant decade and two flags so I don't think they owe me anything.

Wasn't it the club who drove the campaign to encourage everyone to start referencing the 'Kangaroos'?

This morning wasn't one of Andrew's better efforts. I haven't heard him on SEN for ages. He was an absolute gun in the day ringing in and arguing the logic of destroying our club while sending it to the GC - a point I see from this thread is still lost on some people, including Kingy. He was more than a match for knob ends like Fatprick and the Cow. I remember he used to leave Fat fuming and shouting over the top of him. Very uplifting at the time for some of us.

He was much admired on here and we used to wonder which one of us he was. Wasn't me! The consensus was it wasn't any of us.

Anyway, I'll assume Andrew was a bit rusty today and hopefully he'll be back sticking up for the Club like he did in the bad old days (that turned out by a whisker to be the good old days).
Absolutely correct Mr R. I didn't hear Andrew on Wednesday but I can confirm he was brilliant in everything he said on the wireless in that dreadful (nice to get in one of Caro's favourite words about us in those days) period of time. By contrast Kingy was openly pro the move to the GC and as far as I am concerned, I have never been able to warm to the bloke since.

In contrast Glenn Archer was passionate about the club staying as a Melbourne based club.

When Fitzroy was in the AFL, I always shouted "Go Roys" and never "Go Lions". Though I really didn't properly comprehend why I always called them "Roys", many years later when they were killed off by those a********, Oakley, Samuels and (s***) company, I realised the merit in my original decision to go with "Go Roys" all those many many years ago.

How stupid would it have been now to have shouted "Go Lions", because I would be barracking for some far flung manufactured club called Brisbane.

So although it would have been very easy to go with "Go Roos" when I switched to the NMFC, to my certain knowledge, there is nowhere in Victoria called "Roos" or even "Kangaroos", but there is a place called "North Melbourne".

So I always shout "Go North".

Thank God we still have the North Melbourne Football Club.

And thanks also to Andrew who did his bit back their in 2007.

I don't count the times I call them the Roos or the Kangaroos or North or North Melbourne. It's all the same to me and probably to the rest of us. It's also a gift that we've all been given by JB and the people who fought relocation. Without them we'd have no team or some would be calling them the Roos or the Coasters. How often do you hear someone barracking for South Melbourne?

There are some media people who, for reasons known only to them, never call us North or North Melbourne. I don't know why but it is slightly irritating. It's also slightly irritating that when asked for an explanation, they don't have one or refuse to explain.

Collingwood or * people whose very existence has never been threatened would have no clue about the significance of the names by which their club is called.

However, I'd expect North people to understand, either because they lived through the threat of relocation or because they are aware of our recent history.

Same. (And well said, Mr R.)

I also appreciate that there are North fans out there who don't consider it an issue, and that's fine and dandy, too.

But what I don't get are those people disparaging the supporters who do choose to give a shit about it.

Yeah, I've got one of those and it would have got similar treatment except that it was given to me by my, then young and unknowing, daughter for fathers day.

Actually, because of this I refer to them less as the Kangaroos than I used to. (Probable percentage 25.1%, 4.9%, 10.7%, 59.3%, in that order... but I'd be guessing).
