Despite all the promises from Anthony Hudson that SEN would remain committed to other sports blah blah blah, SEN appear to have ditched anything that might upset the AFL, in favour of, well, the AFL.
Tuned in Friday to hear the Storm, but nope, only got Bruce Eva and Mark Fine talking ad nauseum about the Saints, as usual. Then I hear an advert for the AFL coverage which will go until 1am on Saturday and Sunday mornings, which means the 4 Diegos have got the flick. Lastly, Ed Wyatt announces last night that "Born in the USA" has also been discontinued too.
I have no doubt that SEN were given the rights with plenty of provisos from the AFL, but I think Hudson has had more to do with these decisions. He showed on "The Run Home" that he was clearly out of his depth when the talk moved away from football, and now that he is practically running the station, he can act on that by just flooding the station with footy.
To run the weekend as purely AFL, will be massive overkill. Then every other program will just be filled with it too, and I can see even the biggest fans of footy, like myself, actually getting sick of it. They will have the odd interview with other sporting identities, just to fill a bit of free space, but I think a change from SEN, to the AFLEN would be a pretty good place to start season 2007 !
