SEN-Top 10 Tiger games 2010-2020

Stupid of them if they did. You'd think as a broadcaster you'd want to convey the unprecedented atmosphere.
Its the problem with all the broadcasters now, they think everyone tunes in to listen to BT or Huddo, not to actually enjoy their team playing...

You go back and watch games from the 90's and 00's and commentators still had it right then (well mostly)...
Like our 95 semi v Essendon, when Daffy kicks one on the run in the third to put us within a kick, the commentary is...
"...if he kicks one here, have a listen to this... have a listen to this!" followed by about 20 secs on the tiger crowd going nuts...
a good example recently was in the 2017 and it was one of Bruce's best calls in a long time... it was the following...
"Dusty, gets it across to Houli (pause), Houli to kick a goal (pause), He does" followed by 15 secs of the crowd going nuts...

Compare that to normal commentary these days, and one from the 19 GF really grates on me... And that was BT calling Dusty's goal in the second quarter
"(screaming mind you) that's the play of the game, that's the play of the game, that's the play of the game, I've never seen anything like it, he didn't want contact and went out the back..." Now lets be honest, as much as we love it because it was a Richmond goal, it wasn't the play of the game, it wasn't something BT had never seen before, and it wasn't even that great a play by Dusty, he just read it better than the young kid Taylor, the rest was very simple skill execution. BT just knew, no matter the outcome, that was likely to be on all the highlight packages for that GF for years to come, and wanted to make it about his commentary more than anything else.

IMO it all started when 9 got the rights, and the boys club of Lyon, Brayshaw and BT etc, who were EXCELLENT on radio, tried to bring that radio, over descriptive, commentary into a TV broadcast. And it was funny and enjoyable for a short time, but someone like BT just got a massive ego over it and has gone miles too far with it.

This is absolutely spot on.

His call of Rioli's goal in the first is no better. Could have done something like "have a listen to this" but just yelled "5 4 3...." over the crowd noise as it sailed through. Ian Robertson was a fabulous commentator on those 90s games. I have a lot of those old games and love anything he is on. Him and Bruce were actually pretty good together on the Friday night games.
