try western maggpies last years premiers good team traditional footy club great facilities - 3379 6198, on 15mins from brisbane cbd.

Hi guys new to this. I'm currently in Victoria looking to move to qld and play. Just looking for a good club. Could someone point me in the right direction.
Pedro, unlike the suburban Melbourne comps where all the clubs are in the same area, in QLD Div 1 the clubs extend from Noosa to Cololangatta- thats about 250 km, so where you play will be dictated by where you live. If its Brizzie, then Western Magpies, Mayne, Wilston Grange and Sandgate are your best bets. Sandgate's good cos its a young side in a rebuilding phase.

If moving to Sunny Coast, work is rare, live style sweet, Maroochydore Roos, are a club on the up!

yes ball movement was slick, the Dees play very well although in saying that Broadbeach were poor.
springwood look to be very much back on the rador this year, mind you albert proud wouldve gained to many fans today at the vultures and bombers game his language and abuse of players was terrible from the hill.....

Wilston Grange knocked over Maroochy by roughly 4-5 goals i think. Good game of footy though. Reckon both sides will be very competitive this year on that performance.

Palmy played Cooly in a fairly loped sided affair. Inaccurate kicking stopped it being a real blow out 16.16.112 to 5.5.35. Good to see D. Hawkins back at Cooly and has lost none of his touch! Cooly showed that they can be competitive in patches but lacked any real depth. Not a bad hit out for the boys with only one praccy match remaining still plenty of work to do.

Any news on the Mayne - UQ Scratchy?

Mayne won by about 6 goals in the end. Their big forwards proved a bit too much for UQ on the day - a lot of goals coming from set shots. UQ's performance was a big improvement on the week before with some nice passages of play in the second half. However Mayne used it well all day and were the better team.

UQ's reserves won by about 80 points from memory.

Comments from the Mayne Newsletter on weekend scratchy.

"The match on Saturday also showed the versatility that we have with some stand outs playing at the “wrong” end of the park. Although the A grade side won quite easily Mayne Tigers 14 – 8 – 92 to University Reds 7 – 4 – 46 and never looked like being beaten, the reserves have a way to go with a lack of cohesion and many turnovers leading to goals for their opponents. A better second half showed there was improvement in the team."

Not much but figured all info is welcome

Interested to hear from the Noosa camp. All reports are saying they could have a tough year. I know they have lost a lot of players but I find it hard to believe after so many years up the top.
What about the Roos what are their expectations? Finals or to just be competitive with a young side.
Finally Mayne seem to be the ones that could be the bolter. I reckon finals are in their sights.

Only 2 out 30 deemed suitable to play in the state U18 side from SEQAFL U18 Div 1 Cup. Makes a mockery of everything we where told about talent pathways and that
AP Cup players would be considered equal when indentifying talent, looks like NEAFL affiliated players only. I wouldn't think that any of Scorpion development team would have seen a U18 Div 1 Cup game.

Think you will find a lot of the best talent that is from the AP cup has left to play at NEAFL clubs. Which is the best thing for their development in most cases, as they generally have better resourced footy depts, more experieced coaching staff, and if they are serious about being drafted, playing senior footy in that league is going to carry more weight with recruiters. Dont think Aspley have produced to many of their state kids from their own junior development, most are Sandgate juniors that have moved across, a few of them played senior footy at Sandgate last season. Same with the Palm Beach kid who is now at Southport. Its not offensisve to the AP Cup, in most ways it is terrific it is a pathway for them as 17 year olds.

That is becoming painfully clear. Early last year we were advised by AFLQ that the two under 18 comps would be viewed as equals so that AP Cup clubs were not consistently losing their best Under 18s to NEAFL Clubs, this has been proven to be blatantly untrue. In fact the link attached even states "History has shown that players not selected in the initial State Scorpions training squad, have been given a later invitation based on good consistent form at NEAFL club level."
I feel sorry for the quality players who have remained loyal to their AP Cup clubs only to be completely overlooked. Clearly selectors are only interested in NEAFL and Academy players, some of whom aren't as good as the best Under 18 players in the AP Cup.
Looks like AP Cup clubs might have to prepare for an exodus of their best junior talent.

Sorry cant agree with talented playing having to go to NEAFL clubs only, it goes against everything AFLQ has promoted and been telling the AP clubs. The pathway for all players includes non NEAFL clubs. It becomes a rather limited gene pool if you actively exclude all non NEAFL players.

Interesting discussion guys - to my mind it is more about the senior footy that boys are moving rather than for U18 reasons. If any of those boys selected in the Scorpions are playing U18 footy then their clubs are doing a disservice to them - at NEAFL level they would be better served playing reserves footy imo which is obviously a lot better at NEAFL level again. Agree Mega that to be drafted they HAVE to be playing NEAFL footy - fact of life. Its a comp that only just rates on recruiters radar so if you can't get a kick at this level then no point believing you are good enough to be drafted.
I've seen the coaching at U18 level in the NEAFL and the AP and there isn't any difference in this area but there would be at NEAFL level in terms of organisation and the number of coaches around the periphery at senior level.

As for standard, more clubs at AP level but if you took out the bottom 4-5 sides and were left with 7 teams like the NEAFL 18s comp, there is very little difference bn the 2 comps. Magpies, Sandgate, maroochy would all be top 6 sides in a combined comp imo. Reckon there should be some cross over in any case during the course of the year just to maintain interest anyway. Logistically a bit more difficult but not impossible and better for the kids who are looking to test themselves against the better U17 kids anyway.

I agree the AFLQ have blatantly lied about the 2 comps being seen as "equal" last year. Was a dumb comment on behalf of their administration.
