Riodj,

I only hear second hand info, but apparently they (broady) arnt happy he is going after he told them he wanted a year off, so hopefully a sit down with the coaches and board members it can be resolved. So untill that happens a clearence wont be approved.

Must be more to it if Broady are with holding the clearance then. Derrick is the only player outside of Zorko and Walton who is genuinely up to state league that they are losing from last years list.
If he indicated he was having a year off after signing a contract and then turning up at another club in a lower league (obviously not having a year off) they are probably looking to discuss this further with Derrick.
It would be a shame though as he is not that old I think. Difficult to adjust from a lower comp back to higher standard down the track, particuarly with the improvement Broady have shown.

He will be a top 10 player in the comp if he plays in PHC.
On another note - thought Arnold Knight showed some promise in trying conditions at Southport on Saturday. Will need to get fitter though if going to be a permanent player at NEAFL level.

Must agree with speedy, would be silly to hold back but can fully understand their dissapointment. And speed,y we are not all bad down here at palmy! Most of the top players are quality blokes.

Gee wiz, asking me I would have 6 other Palmy players, ask speedy and you would get the same from Noosa! A couple new recruits from some clubs will more than likely put their mits up for selection also.
But to answer your qusetion from Palmy
Drake, I'Anson, Munro, Dyson, Derek (if available), Hards x 2, Hewit.
And I am trying NOT to be greedy!
I'll let other supporters from other clubs nominate, mostly because I wouldnt know their names!

as far as last country champs went it was top heavy with the stronger clubs as you would expect, i think 5 if not 6 from Palmy, 4 from Noosa, 5 from State league, 1 from caloundra (WTF) and then a mixture from stockmans game.
Is the stockmans being played this year in Cairns ? Is maloney coaching this team again, I was surprised he didnt get the nod to be part of country champs 2 years ago, one of the best coaches getting around i think.
Shir and a couple from wilston grange I would think, and a couple more from mayne, brauer, page, matthews and reynolds not up there at Noosa now so would think only Brewster would be the pick, or Mills in a forward pocket maybe, there team is quite even now i would think.
Surfers would also have to have a couple of potentials also. In the end injuries, interest and availability make the difference as to who will actually turn up to training.

i dont mind palmy have some mates there actually, i was more saying that i wasnt making my point from a pbc prospective.

hopefully they keep improving went from being a bit of a laughing stock in the 90s and early 2000s to winning div 2 in 2008 in 2010 qld country finished 4th ahead of WA,NSW and Vic district (they also beat ACT during the carnival). going off last carnivals squad they pick the best player as well as the best person/bloke not necessarily the biggest name so to speak, this seems to work for the coaching staff. agree with you about maloney goes alright most likely will do the stockman you would think.

Fair enough speedy, good to hear! Who would be the couple from Mayne outside? I had mentioned Caleb and Faulkner are there a couple others we dont know about. I watched the stockman game two years back and thought Brett did a very good job. Depending on the availability of the state coaches there could be a spot there for him this year? The rep game will be played up in cairns. Dont be surprised to see a couple of blokes get picked from Capricornia league and also Mackay league. Reading a few of there forums sounds like they have attracted some very handy players from both state league and interstate. Time will tell I guess.

And from a carnival prospective judging on how they picked the squad last time. They play 3 games on the thursday 3 friday, saturday off ,then a full game sunday. Need players who can recover quickly and play consistantly for 3 days. Big ask! Not every top player is cut out for that schedule!

Thought the runner did a good job that day too....

Derrick wanted to have a year off given he had other commitments outside of football plus I heard he lost a bit of interest. He only reconsidered playing when old mates from palm beach got in his ear, it's his home club and although he is still young probably found it hard to say no. I'm sure broadbeach will clear him, he's playing 100 consecutive senior games there and has been of great service there since 2006. I heard that he has also indicated returning there in 2013

Maloney was verbally guaranteed the stockmans job for this year after his great work two years ago but was overlooked for 2012.Commonsense from AFLQ prevailed and he was later appointed an assistant coach. He is coaching Noosas` Under 18s but his contract allows him to be a part of the interleague campaign.Noosa on pre season camp at Northshore this weekend,no praccy matches as yet.Brewster,Isles,McKinntrick and Bailey on last years form(Cubby on last 6 years form) would certainly put their hands up for Cairns selection.

Actually, speaking of Cubby isles,in the 6 years he has been at Noosa he has won 2 b&f(1 in a premiership year 2010),finished 2nd twice,3rd once and 4th once, runner up in the league medal twice and this is all whilst playing for a side that in that time has not finished below 3rd.He is a running machine that continues to be overlooked for rep footy yet those that watch him week in week out know he would easily step up to the plate. He`s a huge reason why Noosa have been the consistently in the top echelon of teams since his arrival in 2006.

Yeah he is a great player, probably misses out on some credit from outside the club because he is more of a Simon Black type accumulator, as opposed to the Matthews/Brauer/ Reynolds etc who were there doing the more stand out starry things ie Judd/Ablett etc. Huge motor, will be interesting to see if he can do it again this year!

Actually, I stand corrected.Maloney just this week was appointed coach of the stockman which i think is a good thing. His preparation and overall application to his coaching is still very evident even at under 18 level.

I`d never say never and I know the Senior and more experienced players like Cubby,Angel Duke and bova rate him very highly.Whilst i am a big fan of a non playing coach,I think noosa will be ready (post fletch) for a top performing playing coach, especially as salary cap regulations seem to easing in this competition.

Be very careful paying overs for this sort of bloke mate - plenty of blokes around who are and always will be far better players than coaches. Have a look at some of the careers those blokes who you interviewed the year Brett got the coaching gig and tell me they have kicked arse anywhere else?
Have a close look at Dan Christian and then tell me have you ever seen him and Brett in the same room together?? :)

3:00 sherwood surfers v springwood at springwood noosa v maroochydore at maroochydore not sure of any other praccy matches
