The crimes of Fred and Rosemary West have haunted me since reading what in my mind is the best book ever written on serial killers -
An Evil Love: The Life of Frederick West - Geoffrey Wansell.

For sheer brutality and depravity the crimes these two committed individually and as a "team" rival almost anyone.

These two kids are not serial killers, but when I read about what they had done, I was stunned. Two ten year old kids, yes TEN YEARS OLD, abducted, tortured and murdered a 2 year old baby for the thrill of it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_James_Bulger

So innocent, yet capable of the most violent of crimes at 10 years of age, I'm dumbfounded. They are the youngest convicted murderers of the 20th century.

It was massive news for nearly a year at the time in all western countries. A number of times since, just recently infact.

Obviously too young at the time to notice, fair enough.

Yeah I recently picked up a cheap book at DFO about these two nutjobs- written by the police officer who basically ran the case; or at least had a very big involvement in it.

So far really interesting. They are so weird- Fred initially admitting to the crimes (or just one crime at the start) and then bactrack saying he didnt do it. They were complete morons they thought they wouldnt search the whole house or whatever just give up after finding one body.

Yeah I remember that case- so so scary. The woman was on 60 Minutes not that long ago, was about issues with their release and how they hardly served anytime for what they did and got new identies and no one knows who they are. And one of them got arrested for possessing child pr0n, so obviously rehabilitation has not done a dam thing.

Anyway, back to the mum, felt so so sorry for her. All she was doing was shopping, she reckons it was a matter of turning her back on her child for a few seconds and they pounced. Led him away, and did all that horrible stuff to him- including things of a sexual nature, details of which were never released to the public. :rolleyes:

Hahaha, sorry I'm with Allbetsroff, this case was HUGE back in the day.

And also has been in the media recently- ie what I just said before with one of them being on charges again,story on 60 Minutes. Also they were in the news a few years back, with one of them believed to have been sent out to Australia complete with their new identities.

Geeze, just when you think we arent a dumping ground for British convicts anymore...

Are you fkin serious? he was proven to have committed the majoirty of those crimes! He knew so much about them etc etc.... Watch the ICEMAN doco's and tell me he is lying??? dumb comment

The most disturbing part of that book for me was him taking his victims to his "favourite place" which was a cave with a huge rat population. After torturing his prey he would leave them mutilated to the point of being incapacitated and the rats would come in and finish them off. Gut wrenching stuff, but actually setting up a night vision camera to film their final terrifying moments is beyond creepy.

I bought the biography/story of his life the docco was based on.... was a good read about a very disturbed individual

There are a few though that have also proven to be wrong (don't ask me which ones, I just know there has been a few). I have no doubt though he committed the majority of them.

Was massive news i think it was in england tho... James Bulger was the kid if i remember correctly both of them got released aswell think one is back in on child pron charges now tho

I was only 2 years old when it happened (happened the day before my 2nd birthday actually) so I'm obviously no expert on what happened but to think that 2 little bastards that young could possibly do that to another human, let alone a toddler, staggers me. It makes me question society as a whole. I remember a couple of years ago, there was this email doing the rounds about one of the murderers possibly being that bloke in WA that sexually assaulted and murdered a young girl in a toilet. That dude is one messed up son-of-a-bitch as well.

Yep, Jon Venables has just gone back to jail on child porno charges for 2 years. Seems like some people are destined for a life of crime.

Definitely high on the evil list. The movie ITV did on them, Appropriate Adult, was one of the better true-crime docu-dramas I've ever seen.
 
While searching for any (rumored) updates of Thompson & Venables after seeing their names mentioned a page back, I came across an article detailing most hated criminals and was surprised to see anyone rate a mention above these guys. (As a side note, read some guy was mistaken as Thompson and committed suicide as a result of harassment - he did actually seem to bear a resemblances, but I assume it would have came out if it was truly him).

Anyway the case was that of Peter Connelly. I have no idea how I've never heard of this before as presumably this would have dominated media coverage throughout the years. Although not unsympathetic, it's quite easy to feel detached amid horrific details when reading criminal cases, however this is one of the few that is truly sickening.

And to make things worse, he contracted AIDS while in jail, and guess what? Just read up on this bloke on wikipedia. My favourite part was:

Justice David Carstairs ordered that Sithole would be required to serve at least 930 years before being eligible for parole
