About time we all started talking about the upcoming trade week i reckon. Its only 3 weeks till it starts and its getting awfully boring around here.

Obviously with Carey being traded we will be an integral part of the week. We've talked about who we might get to for him ie. Johnson, Burton, Stenglien, someone else via a 3 way deal etc. But where likely to be part of more than just 1 trade.

Which players would you like to see come to North? (within reason no Voss for Clayton bull****) and who would you be prepared to give up for the sake of draft picks, or a player we need more (say trade a midfielder for a key defender)

There are quite a few ways we can go about it.

Do we look at trading a serviceable to big name player eg. Grant, McCartney, Simpson etc (just throwing up names) so we can get a young gun at another club (&/or possibly draft picks) who wouldnt quite be considered untouchable at another club Eg. A Cat, Hawk,Bulldog or Saint may be sacrificed for some experience ie. A Rahilly, Enright, Wojcinski at Geelong (Bartel and Kelly would be considered untouchable), ie A Mitchill, Johnson, Bateman or Greene at Hawthorn (Hodge, Ries, Brown, Lonie would be considered untouchable) ie Baker, Maguire at St.Kilda (Riewolt, Koscitzke, Dal Santo etc. untouchable) ie. Gilbee, McGuiness, Harris at Bulldogs (Murphy, Giansiracusa, McMahon, Power untouchable)

Can we go after a forward who isnt getting enough oportunity at there current club, would be better off at another club, is out of favour because of injury, homesick etc. Names like B.Holland, Dixon,Fevola, P. Bowden, J. Bolton could be considered.

Or the same for midfielders. Names like Leoncelli, Adkins, A.McGrath, M.Wilson, M.Stevens, Rielly.

Defenders: M. Bishop, Henneman would be worth looking at.

Or do we go the big guns and chase an Everitt, K.Johnson, Caracella, M.Richardson etc. Obviously if your going to get a big namer you'll have to give one back or a high draft pick. Salary Cap restrictions may pose a problem.

Also its worth considering that JYD came from Collingwood, and he may want players from there. Adkins (if his bodys right) or Scotland would be real nice.

Thoughts????

One position that needs real attention is FB.

I am not sure what the position is with this player, but I saw Ray Hall play an excellent game last year in the Richmond v. Carlton final.

He is tall, quick, agile and skilful, and given that Ben Holland is coming back from injury next year it may be an opportunity to have a crack at Hall.

Heath Scotland is also a good suggestion. Hard running midfielder. Saw a bit of him on TV last year in the VFL. I think he has great potential (dirty word I know) with a bit more experience.

Could we involve ourselves in the Des Headland trade somehow?
It seems he is going back to WA if the media reports are correct.
If as you say there is 3 weeks to go surely the clubs won't wait until then they will do a little bit of preparation between each other.
We need a player of similar size of Carey who does the WCE and Freo have, maybe Croad.
Carey to Adel. Stenglein to Freo Croad to North.

I think the chances of the Roos getting Johnson as part of the Carey deal are slim.

They will chase Adelaides No 1 pick and a middle of the road player. The Roos will also hope to receive a high pick from another club who will get Johnson and possibly a Brady Rawlings/Stuart Cochrane/Dylan Smith/Daniel Harris/Shannon Watt type player. That club will inturn give Adelaide a player or another trade pick. That will give the Roos two high picks and another player, whilst only having to give up one player plus Carey where there is no choice.

I think Grant will bounce back under a new coach as he hasn't been happy under Pagan of recent times. McCartney is very much a required player as our defence isn't exactly our strength. Even mentioning Simpsons as part of any deal is just crazy !!!!!

Of the potential forwards you mentioned we could look at trading for, none of them would be worth the trouble.

Richardson - Too Expensive
Fevola - Too Much Trouble
Dixon - Too Soft/Receiver

I dont mind the Heath Scotland/Damian Adkins idea as we need to build up our stocks of quick, hard running midfeilders. Caracella could be an option to give us some class around the packs and the goals. Hennamen would be a huge trade if we could get him as i rate him highly. Great help to our defence.

I think we need to focus on getting the early picks as part of the Carey deal, picking up a couple 'used' players (midfielder & tall backman) and drafting well. The Stevos and Archers of the club only 2-3 years left so we need to find the next group off 10 year players.

Some pace in the midfield would be nice also and the Bulldogs have a lot of quick young players coming through the ranks. With Peter Rhode saying they would trade for a key defender, maybe we could offer them McCartney for a player like Gilbee or Birss.

McCartney has been a servicable player for us, but I think his time may be up. With Colbert holding down CHB, and maybe Crowe coming through next year, I think we should trade him now while he is still worth something.

I rate Croad really highly. He should really be a Shinboner. Tough, couragous, speed, versatility. Just needs to get the head right.

Well I reckon there should be a 3 way deal done for Carey.

Have stated it many times before but IMHO the trade for Carey should be something like this:
Carey To Crows
A Midfielder from Crows (Johnson as an example) to Richmond
Richmonds #1 pick (Think its #4 overall) to Adelaide
The #4 pick and John**** to Roos..

I think that is a reasonable trade; richmond need an experienced, but not old midfielder *a classy one at that.. Adelaide wants Carey, The would want an early pick.. and John**** would be a nice addition to our fwd line..

Would trade Colbert ahead of McCartney.. and I think we should keep McCartney neway because Crowe wont be able to hold FB on his own in his first playing year..

I think apart from maybe a player as part of the Carey trade (like John****) we should go for draft picks..

And I think Laidley should determine what we get (Assuming he is our new coach.. and everything seems to say he is.. so now I am just saying it automatically..) Because if he is going to change our side and create a new gameplan for our side, he needs hte players to do so, and if the players on our list arent what he needs, well some changes must be made.. there will obvisouly be some delistings, but that wont help much.. so Laidley should determine all this and tell the club (in particular the recruiting officer) what he needs, who he wants and who is affordable for this new game plan to be implemented..

Go Roos

I think that we'll mainly go for as many high draft picks as we can bargain for.

Firstly, I don't believe that we have the core of a premiership team anymore. Perhaps in a year or so... When you have that champion core, team weaknesses can be addressed by obtaining second hand players for particular roles.

In our current situation, we should be looking to develop a new core of players. To do this we require several years of good drafting. We had 3 first round picks at the end of 2000, 2 at the end of last year - we need another year with 2 or 3 first round picks (our own pluse what we can trade from the Carey deal)
These players will represent the core of the team in 2 or 3 years time.

Secondly, I think that we'll be pushing to keep our salary cap down. Going for high class or high profile players is not a way to do this!

A good deal for us would be K. Johnson to Carlton in return for pick's #1 or #2 . Pagan want's result's today not tomorrow so a ready made player like Johnson would be better than a early pick. All the early picks in this Draft look like being midfielder's where Adelaide are already strong so they can on trade that pick to us and throw in Reilly for good measure. I could live with that.

I don't think Carlton will firstly have the picks to trade as they will probably lose them through cheating the salary cap system, and secondly i don't think the AFL allows them to trade their concession picks, as that defeats the purpose of the assistance when finishing with less than 5 wins.

You got to be off ya nut Rowdy Roo if you think Kane Johnson is worth picks 1 or 2 in the draft.
I don't think too many clubs would be interested in your choices for trades.
