18 top 20 in 7 years.Top 20 picks the 5 years before that:
2023: 2
2022: 4
2021: 4
2020: 3
2019: 3
Given over half the players in the AFL are from Victoria, WA's "share" per draft should be around 10-11 players per draft and 3-4 per top 20.
I would prefer there were more top 10 picks from WA but what do you want us to do about it exactly? Just hand the keys to WA footy to the AFL with their proven track record of caring about WA?
Yes but again, while the AFL funds the northern academies for them to get free hits in the draft, there's zero point in the WA clubs spending big just to see those players head east.18 top 20 in 7 years.
So 18/140 = 12%.
That's really very disappointing for an AFL state with a booming economy.
The number should be 20%.
And it's much worse when we look at top 10 picks.
As I said it's very disappointing. The AFL would be concerned and so should you be.
The level of denial is just weird.
Of course if impacts the Eagles.
You just drafted Reid, Duursma and CDT.
You think the Eagles didn't wish they could have drafted WA talent instead with those picks?
Of course they do.
Maybe take a deep breath..And ask why WA have stopped producing top 10 draft talent?
You have had 1 in 3 years. Dan Curtin.
That's 1/30. 3.33%.
That's really quite concerning.

LolYes they do. Every day Dillon when driving into work (whilst WA are still sleeping) he is thinking, how can we screw over WA today.
He gets Swanny and Harley on the phone, sometimes Laura Kane too, but that normally causes other problems, and says “how can we screw over WA today”.
“We could exclude them from Opening Round” says one. “Good one” is the reply, “but it doesn’t really go far enough”. “How about West Coast play their first game on a Sunday night on the Gold Coast”
“Brilliant! And if they whinge the can play their second away game at 9:30am WA time.”
What Western Australians don’t understand is that all us Eastern Staters are in on it too. Some say the AFL don’t listen to the fans, but I regularly get calls from AFL execs asking how can we screw over a Sandgroper.
Sorry, but the secret had to come out eventually and after you asked such a direct question, I felt I had to answer truthfully.
Boats and hoes ..love that song
Hey now ..we don’t need a SA representative in this conversation.Today’s way for AFL to screw over WA.
The rest of the comp to get an extra $20k fuel allowance for clubs due to increased operating costs compared to WA

But they wouldn't head east.Yes but again, while the AFL funds the northern academies for them to get free hits in the draft, there's zero point in the WA clubs spending big just to see those players head east.
Anyway apparently WA people dont care.
Way easier to just blame the good ole "over east" conspiracy than take a look at your backyard.
Why does it matter where our players come from? But they wouldn't head east.
The Eagles could just had 4 top 10 picks.
Used three on Vic players and one on Baker.
If the WA talent was there, the Eagles would have gobbled them up.
Big opportunity lost.
Anyway apparently WA people dont care.

Nothing. Just keep buying shares and supporting their corporate giant sponsors…ie eat more hamburgers.JFC what do you want "WA people" to do about this exactly?
Gather round is the biggest farce and for what is supposed the AFL equivalent of a neutral round is nothing but for the 2 teams that have to play Port and the Crows. Insert Carlton twice in 3yrs now.The real travesty is creating a rounde zero and extra bye for round zero clubs.
The two clubs that travel ten folds don’t get this bye.
This doesn’t make sense, but it does!
Growth market teams leg up
Vic teams with a chance to bring cup home leg up
Teams that don’t interest them in 2026

Doesn’t matter who or where you play ..you’re gunna get spanked of the majority the time.Gather round is the biggest farce and for what is supposed the AFL equivalent of a neutral round is nothing but for the 2 teams that have to play Port and the Crows. Insert Carlton twice in 3yrs now.
If it is truely neutral like advertised gather round is a showdown. AFL are ****ed and never will the draw be close to even or fair. I get gather round and its concept but us playing the true away game 2 of the 3 yrs is just BS.
The unlucky teams that have to play the true away game should never be doubled while teams like the Pies play Freo in a paddock and call it an away game and have to travel for it!![]()

Weird take. Why does it matter where our players come from?
It's not the 90s anymore.
Have an independent review of player development pathways and youth programs and facilities?JFC what do you want "WA people" to do about this exactly?
I can tell you first hand that WA junior pathway football is mainly focused on private Perth schools and the outer suburbs are ignored unless you’re 6’3 and play a key position back or forward.Have an independent review of player development pathways and youth programs and facilities?
Invest some of that money you all brag about? I mean Twiggy and Gina alone could cover this.
Might be a place to start?
Might need some introspection on behalf of the local WA Footy head honchos.I can tell you first hand that WA junior pathway football is mainly focused on private Perth schools and the outer suburbs are ignored unless you’re 6’3 and play a key position back or forward.
Why would I be nervous about Harley leaving?Weird take.
And you don't believe it.
The whole competition gains when WA is producing more good players.
The Perth teams gain when they can draft local talent and not stress about the go home factor.
Don't pretend you aren't nervous about Harley leaving.
Good news locking in Shanahan by the way. He's looking the goods.
Well they aren't producing new players any more so one has to wonder what it is they are actually contributing?West Australians: We are the richest state in the country.
West Australians: Send us all your money.
Go play in another league, no-one really cares.
