Should toast Bret Thornton while we're at it.

Superb game from him tonight.

Don't want to take the spotlight from Irish though - he was awesome as well.

I have not been this happy in a LONG time!

keeps his feet after marking contests allowing for second efforts. If the smalls are lurking it brings them into play.Much maligned but I believe he has more importance than the stat sheets show.

Yes never goes to ground after marking contests ,always beats his opponent to the loose ball after marking contest.

Should still be on list next year.

I've always said our little running forwards gel particularly well with big Setant. They seem to know what each other is doing and Irish is great at least to bring the ball to ground, but he's competitive in other aspects too. I feel more confident with him in the team, believe it or not.

For his sake, I hope he gets a two year offer to be a stop gap solution for the Giants.

Depth player if we have Kreuzer, Waite, Thornton and Hampson around next year.

Setanta leaving would also save me from shitting myself that he's going to play on with an opponent on his hammer.

am I the only one who thinks he's an absolute spud?

bring in hamo imo, 6 goals for the ants this weekend .....

You're probably not the only one, but hopefully you're in the minority.

The opportunities that he creates for our little guys is most likely hard to measure. I would love to see the stats for Eddie/Jeffy goals kicked whilst he is in and out of the side.

No doubt some nerd could help us out here.

So unpredicatable for his opponent......and our whole team lol. But creates crazy situations and seems to cause a bit of panick in opposition defense when he shanks weird kicks. His first goal pretty much shortened my life span by a couple of years due to high blood pressure I think.

I mean this as an endearing quality but he is no more spudlike than Spalding. .. Hit up player that uses the KISS principle so well except the rush of blood near goals. .. Looks unco but just goes in with near 100% effort every time and plays with sheer gusto. ..

I think it will be interesting how he plays on the weekend ... A solid game will go a long way to deciding if we give him another year, he is a depth player if all our guns are firing.

But on the wide spaces of Subiaco I see greatness in him and his athletic beauty.

Simple fact is as a footballing playing specimen he is of great body but late development football brain wise. We need his genes for the next generation!

They will at least have grown up with the game and not give me the bejesus once or twice in a great game!

Gotta love his effort and courage, he wears the Navy Blue like the Honour it should be. Rarely lets the jumper down when healthy.

I for one do want to see him retained.

I wouldn't say his great or spud. I would say he is confusing to be played on, a good thing most of the time. His like Inspector Gadget or Maxwell Smart, you, me and even the opponent don't know what he will do. His like a Poker game, he doesn't show his cards. I think this shits the opponent big time, especially when his been away for a while. I hope he fools the Eagles and plays a blinder, as i know their fans probably won't rate him as a player.

Great post Starry, it's how I feel of his play style too. No one knows what he's gonna do and I think it really worries the opposition :p

The brilliance of Sentata is ....... that not even he himself knows what he will do next!

This makes him literally impossible to defend against.

I agree that he is a great addition to our side for structural reasons. Did you notice we didn't try to kick to Eddie Betts in a 2 on 1 marking contest last week?

Also, can't fault his effort and endeavour. He was following up his work at ground level and putting his body in the way, I think this helped to lock the ball in our fwd 50.

Sentanta draws a key defender away from our other forwards.

If we theoretically had both Hampson and Sentanta in thefwd line next week, they could be more stretched for height. Not to mention Thornton and Walker too!

I see Sentanta as our X-factor for the finals.

Oh mate my heart definitely skipped a beat. Could not believe he did that, actually i could it is Setanta after all:p

I still liked what he brought against Essendon. He creates a contest in the forward line. Even if he doesn't come down with the ball, his opponent rarely does either. And it allows Betts/Garlett to swoop. What he does exceptionally well is keep his feet in marking contests, he's a got great balance. He's not a great overhead mark but his second efforts are sublime.
