Irving waterboarding Helena… Does this mean Irving is dead dead, or is he getting reset again? There are suggestions he worked with Burt in a different department before he was in MDR.
I’m not as sure as pj is.

Helena's facial expression change in the tent with Irving was up there with Walter White's "tread lightly".

It was a definite Helena facial expression in the tent.

Crazy weird her outtie being happy to sleep with Mark S. But also being so sarcastic about Kier’s brother masturbating, unless she was trying to play the part of rebellious Helly R?

Kudos to Irving for seeing through her. We still don’t know who he talked to in the outside phone.

Helena was jealous of Helly R and her connection with Mark S. You could see it when she watched the CCTV footage back on repeat. She then started wearing her hair down outside of the severed floor (in the carpark for instance). Started to take on her features.

The show is really leaning too far into being strange for no real gain. The Irving stuff towards the end was interesting but the episode as a whole was not great

Can’t disagree more.

Also wasn't a huge fan of this woman just popping into existence when convenient and just being like yeah I could have told you all along that your wife was alive. Feels like it takes away from Marks whole innie and outtie story with working to piece things together for himself.

It's my favourite show at the moment but don't think it's free of any criticism

Regabi?

She didn't just pop in to existence. She was the one who reintegrated Petey.

I know that but she conveniently pops into the story when needed just to fill gaps and her apparently knowing Marks wife was alive all along and just not telling him takes away from the Mark story of working it out for himself for me

Yeah it struck the balance better in season 1 between character / plot heavy show and surrealism, I thought we were back on track last week. If it wasn't for the final scene this ep would've been a whole load of nothing plot wise.

Criticism is fine - no show is perfect - but to say "that episode doesn't help the plot" is just a silly thing to say because we don't know the outcome yet. It could prove to be vital to the plot. We can only determine it later.

As in the main event from the episode (Irving revealing Helena) did not need any of the outside world weirdness. Infact I think it would have been more impactful if not for that distraction.

I also don't think we need to wait until the end to be critical of the artsy strangeness that they are going heavy on at the moment. Like we still have no idea about the random goat world and we are already being thrown into something else that we have no idea what's going on. The balance during season one was far more palatable for me

Fair enough 👍

TBF I've read some stuff about offscreen politics (stiller gaining more creative control at expense of the creator for s2 at Apple's behest) which is probably subconsciously clouding my judgement.

It sounds like you want your pay offs all at once to me.

I prefer the slower reveals and ongoing mystery. This show has been great at leaving crumbs then giving an answer reasonably quickly. The Helly/Helena issue being the prime example.

Yeah some issues are still unanswered (goats etc) but there wouldn’t be a show if we knew everything already.

I’m confident there will be no Lost type situation here.
