I can feel some upsets on the cards, if SarahSmiles can get to the semis(?) in Monte Carlo then who knows how I'll go here.

UNKNOWNS TOPPLE ACTIVES IN FIRST ROUND ACTION
IT is always fun when the most talkative players get rolled by the least talkative ones in a fantasy tennis game... not. But anyways, here we are in Barcelona, where posting activity clearly does not equate to results. The two seeds advanced through to the second round with sportsmaniac89 and Karnezis_13 both advancing in straight sets, as did Headless over Pie 4 Life, however every other game required three sets. Vincenze Madaras upset Sarah Smiles despite dropping the first set, PhenomenalV1 won a match courtesy of two tiebreakers over the newcomer kdavva74, Nakia knocked out The Half Back in a whopping 12-10 tiebreaker, and Loonerty also required a tiebreaker to defeat Cassandra Rinaldi. In other results, Ayah Kubba advanced with a win over Wacky Tiger, and nahnah and dog_nah won against Smut O'Melton and Jack Nah respectively.

ROUND 1 RESULTS:

Vincenze Madaras (Hungary) defeated SarahSmiles (Vatican City) 3-6 6-2 6-4
PhenomenalV1 (Luxembourg) defeated kdavva74 (Great Britain) 6-3 7-6 (8) 7-6 (5)
[8] Karnezis_13 (Seychelles) defeated Nick Morgan (New Zealand) 6-3 6-3
Nakia (Netherlands) defeated The Half Back (New Zealand) 6-4 3-6 7-6 (10)

dog_nah (Australia) defeated Jack Nah (Belgium) 6-7 (5) 6-2 6-4
Headless (Great Britain) defeated Pie 4 Life (Liechtenstein) 6-3 6-2
[7] sportsmaniac89 (Australia) defeated haydo (Australia) 6-3 6-4
Ayah Kubba (Oman) defeated Wacky Tiger (Great Britain) 6-2 3-6 6-0
Loonerty (Australia) defeated Cassandra Rinaldi (San Marino) 4-6 6-4 7-6 (5)

SEVEN of the eight seeds have advanced through to the quarter finals with only NinjaSwan suffering a second round exit. The man from Monaco went down 3-6 6-4 6-4 to Oman's Ayah Kubba. In the other results, the world number one JT, world number two Dennis Lopez and world number four reggie all had straight forward wins, barely breaking a sweet in their victories. As did Karnezis_13 who overcame PhenomenalV1 6-3 6-1. Fifth seed Fizzler had a bit more of a struggle in the second set to win 6-2 7-6 over Nakia, while seventh seed sportsmaniac89 knocked over Headless 7-5 7-6. German third seed EJW had the biggest trouble, coming back from a set down to move through to the quarters in three sets.

TOP SEEDS FALL AS TITLE RACE OPENS UP
FOUR of the top five seeds have dropped out of the Barcelona Open title race in a spate of upsets at the Spanish clay event. Eighth seed Karnezis_13, already a title winner on clay, upset the world number one JT, defeating him 7-6 5-7 6-4 in a huge match that had the crowds up and about on the main court. Just next door, little known player from Oman, Ayah Kubbah stunned the modest crowd in attendance, upstaging second seed Dennis Lopez 6-4 6-2. Seventh seed sportsmaniac89 was the next to throw a spanner in the works, knocking off clay specialist EJW, dismissing the third seed German in two tight sets, just nailing the second set tiebreaker. In the only match which saw the favourite win, reggie suddenly became the highest ranked player remaining in the tournament, defeating Fizzler relatively easily 6-4 6-1.

QUARTER FINALS RESULTS:

[8] Karnezis_13 (Seychelles) defeated [1] JT (Mongolia) 7-6 (4) 5-7 6-4]
[4] reggie (France) defeated [5] Fizzler (Australia) 6-4 6-1
