Geez there's one or two blokes on here with their heads firmly up their own arses. Telling Bentleigh what they should do with their cash holdings, as though they know what Bentleigh's cash holdings are. Deciding for themselves which clubs may or may not in the future challenge for a Div 1 Premiership.

Maybe Bentleigh are doing what any sensible club would do in their situation. Building a solid foundation for the club for coming decades rather than simply trying to buy a flag this year. If they were my club, that's what I'd be advocating. Good on 'em. Win a flag rather than buy one.

Footy's about a whole lot more than which sugar daddy has more cash to splash around.

Thanks Muse fair and reasonable response. On a different point do you think some sort of salary cap by way of a points system could be the way to even the comp up a bit? say 5 points for an ex AFL Player for the first year he is with you 4 points for his second year, 3 points for a VFL player, no points allocated if the player comes through the juniors etc and each club is allowed say 15 points per week?? I suppose the issue is then "innovative" clubs like St Pauls now and St Kilda City 2007 - 2010 would be hampered as they may not be able to secure the all these top liners and those players might end up at the clubs that provide "INDUCEMENTS" in the VAFA.

The "cap" system whether it be points or salary has merit but again some flaws. It would suit Dingley for arguments sake but would not assist Heatherton for example as they have no juniors yet it would be intended to give clubs like that a bit of a leg up. A salary cap would be a waste of time and impossible to police. I don't really have answer short of each club in the competition is responsible for their administration and playing lists.

Without getting offensive and crass you might want to investigate just where your own cranium is. If you think I don't know the cash situation check it yourself and if I'm wrong I'll apologize if it's more than $10K out. When you talk about building a future you're not doing that running around in Div 2. With that resource they should be a lay down misere to go up and yet are no certainty. Div 1 is an almighty jump from Div 2 just to be competitive let alone threaten finals. History tells you that! Ignore it if you will but the last team that played finals the year after they were promoted was Balwyn in 1998 and they were funded by the biggest sugar daddy of them all. You may have completely missed it but I gave Bentleigh credit saying I thought they be one of the few current Div 2 clubs that could ultimately go all the way but let me guarantee they won't do it with a warchest in the bank

If you can't see that what you wrote is a bunch of patronising crap then I can't help you.

rumour has it brendan fevola could be lining up for a one game for clayton in the coming weeks
Let's hope so. Good publicity or the Clays and the Comp. He must have played at 6 clubs this year. Be interested to know what he wants. Set fee or percentage of the gate. Either way I reckon you are looking at $1500 minimum.

Looking at the fixture if he isn't playing this week it would have to be against the Saints in 2 weeks time. That's there only other home game before clearances end.

I reckon you'd be closer if you added another 0 to that!

I imagine he'd be on close to $1500 a game at Yarrawonga week to week, but for a one off game would be much more than that as the club would make a killing on the gate, and potentially at the functions afterwards etc....

Times 4

Thats the figure I believe to be true. And 10,000 for his one offs
I thought it was reported in the paper he was playing in Yarrawonga to wipe a gambling debt with Sportsbet. Owner of Sportsbet has some affiliation there. Probably right. Wiping 60K a year off the debt.
Anyway 10K for a one off you would need 2 months to organise properly to sell a Sportsman Night plus luncheon ect. 2000 people at $5 a head covers the 10K.
Maybe the league could give them divvy 1 finals again to help cover the cost? ;)

The owner of Sportsbet no longer owns Sportsbet but is the man behind the funding at Yarrawonga. He's also one of the new owners of the Melbourne Storm, so he must be doing alright ay? ;)

You are correct JAM. Sold it for about $60m!!
Not sure why clubs do these one off things....is it purely to raise money?
Is Clayton throwing in the towel this year and trying up raise funds for next year?

Whose he playing against Homer? Word is it's against Dingley but we don't play you until the 6th of July. I thought clearences/permits were done and dusted by the 1st of July. Anyone know the ruling? If the mail is true Dingoes would be happy to move the game to a Sunday for a small fee.;)
