Horrible situation.

In the end they are damned if they do and damned if they don't.

Obviously the bloke has done a fair bit for their club and deserves acknowledgment in some way but in these circumstances it makes it extremely difficult.

As ausde13 said, condolences to all concerned.

I could quite easily sit on the fence like a lot of people would, but I am not - sure he has contributed to the football club, but realistically he is a murderer and that should outweigh anything he has done around the football club and a public tribute like black armbands is not appropriate.

It is not like he died drink driving and killed another person, which is a very stupid action - this was a malicious, calculated murder and I think Springy Districts are making a very poor decision in the eyes of the community.

I'm sure the Springvale boys are not condoning what he has done, they are just trying to pay some respect to a person that has done a lot for their club over the years. Its a messy situation.
Condolences to all concerned.

i think in this situation you need to think about how this affects the victims (the family of the victim.)

Honour him on a thursday night or at a special memorial within the football club but don't go rubbing salt into the wounds by publicly honouring him as well.

What he did was nothing short of malicious and sometimes discretion is required by those who saw him in a better light to just honour his life in a respectable (to the victims) way.

Just to change tack a little and stimulate some actual footy conversation, half way point of the year could be a suitable time to make some observations and predictions.

Flag - I'm gonna say StPauls will break through
Four - As is.
Medal - Tasiyan (StK) to pip McKenzie (Chelt) and James (StP)
Goals - Taranto (Chelt) - 86
Best new recruit besides Adam Henry - Chard (TM)
Coach - Shepherd (StP)
Spoon/Relegation - Highett although will win 1 game for the year
Div 2 Promotion - Dingley over Heatherton

Interested in others thoughts....

Might be a bit much to get footy conversation going with all the rumour mungers on here. Anyway I'll bite....

Flag - St Kilda over St Pauls
Four - St Pauls, St Kilda, Chelt, Mordi to sneak in - will be a battle for 4th with Clayton and Tooronga Malvern
Medal - Hobley (Mordi)
Goals - James
Best Recruit - Brendan Long until neck injury
Coach - Tooronga Malvern coach, can't remember his name
Relegation - Highett, 0 wins
Promotion - Heatherton to defeat Dingley in GF for their only loss
Most Improved team - out of Tooronga and Mordi

How are the Springvale boys enjoying the Divi 1 comp? Bit different to the confidence that was displayed at the start of the season - I remember in a Poll earlier this season where the considered themselves premiership contenders.....

as a supporter of springvale they have only had there full strengh team in once this year and that was against chelsea heights and they smashed em.should of won by 10 goals that game.williams is a big factor in the team and hopefully they can get him back 4 the second half of the year.he has only played 1 game this year.

Chaddles it is a massive step up to divvy 1 but springy is missing seven of there GF side from last year and williams isnt playing, and they did not recruit. I play for dingley and hope we can get up to divvy 1. Trust me the club is already planning for next year and we will be competitive. I have been to watch a few divvy 1 games this year and the crowds are not that great, we average 1000 people to evry home game and have had crowds over 3000 people watching us on 3 occasions. Dingley have a massive supporter base and it will be good for the league if we can get to divvy 1. Will be great to play Mordy and chelsea with you guys only being a couple of minutes away

Birdy77, not to sure if you can read mate. This topic is Divy 1 only..... Next year you might be able to post your opinion here, unless Heatherton have something to do with it. Until then mate, off ya go back to divy 2....

St Pauls will win flag, and win it very easily.

Tasiyan is a very, very average footballer and if he did win a medal, it would de-value anyone who has ever won one.

goals, Taranto easily.

ddivision 2, who cares, there is nothing in that division that tells me whoever comes up will not go down.

in relation to the post about springvale, a little research will reveal many of their players have multiple division 1 premiership medals, and a number of them have multiple eastern football league division 1 premiership medallions.

cheltenham, to make the massive move second half of the season, to play st pauls in the grand final.

mordi, big improvers, with no thanks to chaddles crap giving them added pressure. ogier should win medal. makes me laugh when someone tries to put tasiyan's name amongst any of the top 25 players in the league, he is extremely, extremely overated. very soft, slow, and poor skills.

Be interesting to see how Alan Henry goes against his former team East Brighton this weekend. :)

Perhaps Superfreak can fill us in on how he has been going since crossing to Chelt? I have heard they have some exciting youngsters from their Junior teams who are knocking on the door. Is he taking up a spot, or adding to the mix? Also interesting to see C.Worner and B.Shalders among the 2s results. Coach dropped himself for discipline purposes???

Always thought Chaddles was a TOOL now i am sure he is.

How can a poll at the start of the year in which anyone could vote mean that the Springvale players rate themselves to play off in the big one.
GET A LIFE YOU TOOL!!!!!!!!

Hope you enjoy playing on the Springvale ground this week cause it will be the last time Mordi see it this year, you can book your hoildays for September.

C.Worner & B.Shalders both coming back from injury. Plenty of players from the 2's knocking on the door, especially the younger players. I think Henry may find himself back in the twos this week.

As Rider said, C.Worner was coming back from a knee reco and only played a half, Shalders was coming back from injury also. If you miss two games, you play in the two's no matter who you are.

A few real good kids in both the ones and the twos at the moment which is why the Rosella colts have dropped their last two games as their entire onball brigade are playing in the seniors.

Henry is going OK considering he missed a good two years of footy. To use a racing term, he is better for the run each week.
