WFNL 10.16 (76) defeated SFNL 9.8 (62)Anyone attend the interleague game today?
the crowd at the u19 game was woeful compared to the crowd at rsea last year.WFNL 10.16 (76) defeated SFNL 9.8 (62)
WFNL kicked away in the 1st quarter. SFNL threatened in the last quarter but Tom Condon kicked the last goal to seal it and WFNL held on in what was a great game. The game was played in great spirit and both teams had a fair dinkum dip. A delight to watch.
Poor crowd turnout - I estimate about 1000 people - the ground looked bare. What can you expect when there was basically zero marketing and promotion from both leagues.
Tom Condon (Parkside) kicked 4 goals and was best on ground for the WFNL.
I took my trusty & rusty camcorder with me and recorded the last half. Will upload to YouTube in a couple of days and share the link on this page. Gotta luv suburban footy.

A medal was also awarded to a SFNL player for "best on ground for the SFNL" but unfortunately the presenter didn't actually say his name so I don't know who it was. Someone will know. I thought No 17 (Andrew Green?) played well and repelled many attacks in the final quarter when they almost pinched it.Standout players for the sfnl?
I ventured out but was disappointed with the calibre of players who represented SFL. That SFL interleague side would not get within 8-10 goals of Dingley or East Brighton.Anyone attend the interleague game today?
I agree with what you’re saying it was defiently the B squad but it is defiantly good enough to beat any individual club.I ventured out but was disappointed with the calibre of players who represented SFL. That SFL interleague side would not get within 8-10 goals of Dingley or East Brighton.
Obviously most of the top liners made themselves unavailable, but games like yesterday do the reputation of the league more harm than good.
Green was excellent but Rogers from Murrumbeena won the medal, I think he kicked 5 of the southerns 9 goals.A medal was also awarded to a SFNL player for "best on ground for the SFNL" but unfortunately the presenter didn't actually say his name so I don't know who it was. Might be the case…but we can only read into results and based on this game the Southern League are ranked behind the Western comp (which I don’t rate now with no Deer Park and St Albans). Makes a mockery of Interleague….but what can you do. Players just play for the almighty $$$ these days!I ventured out but was disappointed with the calibre of players who represented SFL. That SFL interleague side would not get within 8-10 goals of Dingley or East Brighton.

Extremely sad day is a bit melodramaticYou are so right Billy, this was an extremely sad day for SNFL footy and it's reputation.
Western region footy is not regarded highly and frankly I would have put any half decent players the SNFL put together would have held firm and won.
Imagine if the SNFL played the Essendon league or the Northern FNL
Yep , this person is a d#####Extremely sad day is a bit melodramatic
No one really cares
It’s good for the players who can put on their CV they represented their league, but as an East Brighton supporter I was not disappointed to hear that their top liners weren’t playing
I’m sure most clubs are the same going by who played
But where were youNot a dill to expect the SNFL league to beat the Western Fotoball league which is not exactly the pinnacle of Melbourne suburban footy.
Yes Southern would be the weakest of the metro comps. Last 2 outings against the next worst (Western) we have lost. In 2014 they got flogged and on Saturday embarrassed. For all the talk about how much the standard the SFNL has improved, the result has to be seen as a set back to the reputation of the comp. WRFL are barely filling 2 divisions with a few recent defections to the stronger EDFL. Many of their Div 2 clubs are simply non-competitive so to lose was a bit embarrassing. While we can talk about players not being available, I expect the same applies for the winners. Until we take these games seriously we will continue to be judged as the weakest of the suburban football competitions. Well done to those who made the effort but I’m not sure there is a place in the modern world for this concept.
For the record, the WFNL side on Saturday did not have any representatives from the 2 strongest clubs, Werribee and Hoppers Crossing and only 1 from Altona, the 2022 premier. Same player apathy with the WFNL clubs as for the SFNL. Very weakened WFNL side as well. The team that played for southern was no where near full strength, if a full side played they would of beaten western by 20 goals, I think interleague needs some big $$ from sponsors to work properly, if the best 25 players in the league were offered $5000 to play they would all play and interleague will be successful!
