Yes, junior football in the region is dead.

St: Pauls juniors used to have at least a team in every ae group and sometimes two teams, now it's only having as its highest level an under 14s.

This is happening across Melbourne where there are well respected secondary colleges.

Within a generation, the number of people playing AFL will halve and teams will start to fold.

And the AFL waste money on a media section with about 20 dud content journo's which isn't needed and maybe those millions could go into grass roots footy. Apparently a rat like Barrett is paid a fortune

what's happened to the Vampires? flogged Chelt before the week off and have now lost 3 in a row after it, the last against a side on a 6 game losing streak

Nick jewell not coaching there next season. Allegedly he has not been to training the last few Tuesdays.
Going up coach a club on the peninsula.

He seems a much maligned and polarising figure in all local sporting circles that he gets mentioned in? Sounds as though there must be troubled seas internally at the All Stars? results very up and down for a club with the high profile players that they have had come and go and coaching generally is a results based caper especially if you are spending the amounts rumoured that the All Stars are spending so I guess there is no surprise there is smoke billowing from down the highway but like most the buck starts and stops with the senior coach and maybe he sees the writing on the wall? But I find it hard to believe the Senior Coach wouldn’t be at training night after night being a Division 1 coach , if not they are cutting the corners and probably not a surprise to see the results that they are producing

To be fair his employment means he's away on the road during the week, coaching at that level is not a full time job

You seem to know him better than most and an All Stars supporter outside of your Vafa commitments , fair enough on the employment schedule, But 10-15 hours a week at a minimum for a division 1 coach is not full time.

Tuesday / Thursday / Game Day with preview / review in between I would say is the requirements at division 1 level and correct me if I am wrong but I would say all coaches division 1 and 2 would work to this template and if not I would be mightily surprised.

Certainly not a All Stars supporter , always hated them , even in juniors .
Seriously just follow local footy and Nick is a good operator , that's all

Another great win by St Pauls down at Narre Warren after being behind at half time. This St Pauls outfit never quits. They ooze class and charisma and effort, effort, effort. Man, I am telling you, Dingley Dell should be shaking in their boots. And St Pauls have another couple to come back in yet. While others, notably East Brighton are falling away and seem to be almost in crisis mode, St Pauls are as smooth as 80-year-old triple distilled scotch.

St Paul’s always just seem so much more grounded. They don’t have the fancy rooms, or a huge volunteer base. Just a great coach with a great outlook on what good footy looks like. Dingley, Chelt, All Stars throwing everything at premierships- no salary cap in those clubs 😂

What did you watch this week sport

Yes actuallyinformer so true, St Pauls are the template that other clubs in not only the SFNL but in all other leagues should use to create a great footy club both on and off the field.

Great game down at Bentleigh on the weekend. Hotly contested game in what was an absolute tussle. Injuries to key players from both teams in the first quarter completely changed the dynamic of the game. Thought Springvale were going to snatch the win as Bentleigh could not buy a goal in the last 10 minutes however they popped up very late on with a long range goal. Both the crowd behind the goals and Springvale supporters at the clubrooms made for an electrifying atmosphere in the 4th. Games like that is what makes me keep coming back to local footy!

Top 6 has broken away from the bottom 4. Only 5 spots available come September however, so will make for some huge matchups in the coming weeks. Pick of the bunch is St Pauls VS East Brighton this week. Cranbourne a real sniff against a really poor Narre Warren too. Narre will stay up but they will need to do some serious recruiting in the offseason as their side don't have the legs for a 4 quarter effort at the moment. No doubt they will recruit hard.

Think Murrumbeena will do enough to stay up with performances at home, but I'm finding it hard to see Port and Cranbourne win many more games if they both don't win this week.

One of the most shocking decisions in the game between Bentleigh and Springvale Districts. And that's an AFLW umpire, Emma Stark

That’s an appalling decision. From the rushed behind under pressure within 9m to the card send off. Has she succumbed to the youths behind the goals ? Who may I add on a good day act like carnies. A note for HQ- stakes are high in division 1 football and clubs spend big, the big games = the best umpires , 3 female umpires umpiring a top 3 division 1 clash is asking for trouble , the league is doing a lot right but this is an incredibly poor decision. The most senior of field umpires the league has available should be paired with the female umpires at any one time for top end games. This could be season defining for Springvale with the competition being so tight and probably an apology sent from HQ to Springvale wouldn’t be out of order but it won’t give them 4 premiership points.

Huge games this weekend
Dingley v Bentleigh
St.Pauls v All Stars

All Stars drop this they won’t finish top 3.

Bentleigh, the story of the year to this point. The beast is awakening , young talent galore littered through the playing list with a list profile that will have it at the pointy end for a sustained period as long as they don’t go shopping for 1/2 year wonders
