They did. Dingley couldnt move the thing.
Or Dingley:
• selected injured players (Feehan)
• had lengthy interchange rotations (Dickie spent first 17 mins of game on the bench)
- Peacock, Benton, Walmsley, Ferguson all spent lots of time on the bench in rotations
• missed goals from the top goal square (Moorecroft)
• fumbled the ball & turned it over (Duscher)
• played selfish football (Freeman)
• Kicked 2.6 in the 3rd qtr (may have actually still won it, if they kicked straight in this qtr)

J Lonie, Edwards #20, Davis, S Lonie all dominated & Chelt had super quick bench rotations

Jack Lonie too good for the level. Absolute animal.

The most accurate report of the game I have read or come across outside of my own groups collective thoughts on the day and the one eyed Dingley patrons I know and have spoken with since. As I tell some of the Dingley Members , when you pay bigger player bills than the rest of the competition year on year and you don’t deliver the silverware , the eyes and fingers dart everywhere internally and they are starting to dart at Dingley

Starting with the coach

Dingley would have won clearances by nearly 20 and had 40 more disposals, but despite losing the inside-50 count there’s nothing wrong with their system

Absolute garbage

A friend who has coached against him said he's no good at the start
How about this, after finishing the season 4 games clear on top he must have some idea what he is doing. Chelt were fantastic in the GF and kicked the first 3 goals! Credit to them and we look forward to turning the tide next year!

Maybe because of the paper bags

Of course you stay at the pointy end when you consistently pay over the salary Mahalo. Fair play to pay the big dollar that many clubs struggle to pay year on year but when don’t deliver the silverware and you have an overpriced squad who played timid football at best on the big day I think the couple I know involved have a right to ask a few questions

Simply the Div 1 standings can be basically affiliated to the amount that each team pays. Maybe Dingley pays slights more than Cheltenham but other than that, each team standing on the ladder is closely related to the amount that they pay their players or jobs handed out by affiliates of those clubs.

Wouldn’t have thought Bentleigh paid more than East Brighton All Stars

Fair Call. You got me on that one. But other than that, I reckon it's pretty accurate. Payroll equals ladder position.
Hmm. I think Port Colts would still have been a top 3 spender this year. East Brighton wouldn't be far behind either. Both have numerous A graders on $$$$. Bentleigh did very well to finish top 5 with what you would assume would be a spending budget of a bottom 2 side like M'beena? Were they just punching above their weight this year or can they go again in 2026 and seriously challenge in finals? One to watch for sure.

Will Hampton Park spend the big bucks to compete next year? Do they even have the coin to even do it? My early prediction says they will go straight back down, but that may change depending on recruits. M'beena and East Brighton have held their own but still struggled since coming up, and they were miles ahead of every other team in their promotion year. HP I fear were not close to the same quality of MB and EB promotion years.

It's been mentioned already but I'd be very surprised if Cranbourne drop 1 game next year. They will rebuild, recruit, and reset very quickly I imagine and already expect to see them in D1 2027.

There are two different payment systems. One where you throw big coin at your top 3 or 4 players but get fragile about 13 or 14 on your list like Port Colts and East Beighton All Stars did. Or you can spread the coin over 20 reasonably good players and while having one or two obvious class players, you bar a lot deeper to 20 or 22 on your list which Cheltenham Rosellas and Dingley Dingoes and St Pauls Doggies have done. The teams who have consistently done well in SNFL Div 1 have pretty even lists so that in the crunch time of finals they are not relying on one or two individuals and feel more comfortable that the risk and reward is shared around. Especially on RESCA Park where finals games are typically low scoring and often it's the best backline that wins.

Apparently Murrumbeena aren’t a big-paying club. They’ve lost a heap of players to Sunbury, so I’d be surprised if their budget is over $100k — if it was, you’d expect them to be attracting some top-end talent now that they’re in Division 1.

East Brighton, on the other hand, would be spending close to double that.

With Jewell and Kinsella moving on and two highly credentialed VAFA coaches coming in Edgar (SKOB / Glen Eira) and Joyce (Collegians / Uni Blues) they could potentially recruit from their old clubs and build a strong list. But from what I’ve heard, neither side is expected to play finals next year, with both set to lose a lot of their better players.

Apparently Scollo might be going back to de la Salle and Dareo Rogers has told Murrumbeena he’s leaving, with rumours linking him to Dingley, while Lamb, Desent and Downie are all believed to be moving on from East Brighton along with a lot of retirements.
