Seems a bit going on around metro footy in regards to the treatment of umpires this week.

This from Finally25 over at EDFL

So this landed in my lap tonight.
A memo sent by EDFL

verbally abused her during the game.

• U12 - Officials (goal umpire and umpire’s escort) disputing and arguing calls.
• U14 - Runner was yelling abuse at the Umpires (15 year old).
• Under 18.5 Women's Premier- behaviour was poor. Officials were harassing umpires while contradicting every umpire decision.
• Women’s D1 - Verbal abuse from players, bench and crowd
• Men’s D1 - supporters commented at the umpire “that is shit umpiring”.
• Men’s D2 – supporters approaching umpires saying the umpires were cheats and that it was shocking umpiring, with one saying to an umpire to “go get your money, you cheating dog.”
Disappointingly, the above is just a small sample of what has become a very negative pattern amongst our community.
A reminder for the rest of the season, if an umpire deems the actions of players, officials and/or spectators as unacceptable/unsafe or is likely to escalate in nature then they can
and will call off the game.
Where a game is called off then those teams playing in the game will not be allocated EDFL Umpires the following round. This not only affects the offending team but the opposition team that they are playing the following round.
Any repeat offending teams will face further sanctioning which may include suspension of a team’s official or a team-wide suspension.
Previously when an incident of this nature has occurred (a charge being using, abusive, insulting, threatening or obscene toward or in relation to an umpire) towards an Umpire,
the abuser was provided with an opportunity to take a set penalty of 1 week down from 2 or go to the tribunal. Moving forward this will no longer be the case. For the remainder of the year the following will apply to the charge For the remainder of the year the
following will apply to the charge using, abusive, insulting, threatening or obscene language toward or in relation to an umpire: 1. 2. 3. 4. Player will be offered (set penalty) 4 weeks with a reduction of 2 weeks if they take the early plea. The remaining 2 weeks will go on their record as a reprimand and any further breachers in the preceding 12 months will attract the extra 2 weeks.

Club Officials including coaches will be offered 5 weeks (set penalty) with a
reduction of 2 weeks if they take the early plea. The remaining 2 weeks will goon their record as a reprimand and any further breachers in the preceding 12 months will attract the extra 2 weeks.
If a plea isn’t accepted and the person will have to front the EDFL tribunal where they will receive the full 4 or 5 weeks if the Tribunal deems fit.
Where an umpire deems the charge to be serious enough for it to go to the
tribunal then this will still be the case.

**Unless I’m mistaken, a coach can get 5 weeks for abusing an umpire but a PLAYING COACH only get 6 weeks for a king hit 80meters off the ball AND pleads not guilty only for the EDFL to have the vision. Surely I’m missing something 🤷‍♂️

Bloke from work’s brother playing there. All been hush hush. And surely not talking about St Kilda City? They’ll be in Div 4 before the season’s even finished.

Down to 3 I guess
Time for ashwood to head down I reckon
Well at the moment considering how tight Div3 is, it will either be Ashwood, Lyndhurst or SthMorn. Wouldn’t be surprised if Lyndhurst goes down, however massive game for Ashwood down at Citation. Can’t see Lyndhurst getting the better of Berwick.

If Lyndhurst drop games this week and next, relegation could become a real possibility. Happy to be proven wrong — but since 2022, they just haven’t been the same side. Yes, there’s a new playing list and a new coach, but a handful of talented players isn’t enough to build a flag-winning team. Maybe what they really need is a hard reset — get that confidence back and rediscover what made them such a strong unit in 2022. Again, I am happy to be proven wrong..
