If there are no umpires, there’s literally no game. Simple as that. Have you ever umpired a match yourself? Most people who complain or abuse umpires have never stood in the middle and actually done the job. This is exactly why we have a shortage — everyone relies on umpires but loves to give them grief.

That's what happens when there footy Director comes from the Ammos. Issue is, he's just getting average players from there. None of the higher end players have come with him except Cloke and he's at the back end of his career. They've also recruited heavily through trainstop, but again not attracting top end players. I think they've ultimately attempted to go for quantity over quality, which didn't work in 2025 for them seeing as they would have been touted as a big chance to go deep into September.

Why hope it backfires? Didn't you concur on the Div 1 page that recruiting from the VAFA, in areas like what Black Rock and St Paul's are in, was actually smart recruiting?

They just recruited Luke Williams. Black Rock like to skim through VAFA players who are generally reserves players from Div 1 clubs and offer them money. Tends to work to get them there, but they aren't improving there on field results. Besides Aaron Cloke, all of there recruits of the past 2 years since getting there new footy ops manager have been average at best.
