SFNL 2020 Season Announcement

The Southern Football Netball League (SFNL) Board met last evening and resolved that the 2020 Men’s Senior, Reserve and Thirds Grade football competitions, as well as the Senior Woman’s football competition, be cancelled.

The primary purpose of the SFNL is “to provide football and netball participation to the Southern community”. We have worked closely with State and local government, AFL Victoria, other metropolitan leagues as well as all our Clubs to explore a responsible way to proceed in 2020, against the challenging background of COVID-
19.

However, in light of the recent outbreaks and significantly increased number of positive COVID-19 cases recorded in Melbourne, it has become apparent that the health and safety risks have simply become too great to conduct any senior contact sporting competition in 2020.

See you all in 2021

Talk coming out of Clayton is that apparently the senior coach is still owed his 2019 contract. Laughable really if true. Why would he stay on in 2020 if his contract has not been looked after from the year before and same old Clayton by the look of it not honoring contracts. Can anybody confirm or deny if this is true ? If true have the players been paid for last year ?

I heard their players have all been paid, don't know about the Coach though.

Any news on new recruits and who does everyone have practice matches planned against?

Ashwood been busy it looks like - Purcell + Cardamone from Donvale as well as Luke Caton-Thomas from Belgrave. Purcell will kick a lot of goals. Couple country fellas too in the transfers.

Endeavour also with a couple handy players from Mordi, including McIver and a gun ruckman Van Velsen.

Doveton have lost another coach? He sounded like a good one. Looks like they might struggle.

Narre South and Sth.Mornington still the unknowns.!

duno yet on praccy games!

What was the story with Doveton's coach? Signed and left within a few weeks, not a good look.

Anyone know what happened?

Saw an article on local footy which said he didn't realise the debt, restrictions and lack of players they were experiencing before signing on...
Sounds like they will really struggle this year

Sad to hear. Hopefully they can sort the debt out, never good to see a club go under

Top 4 - Clayton, Black Rock, Ashwood, Endeavour Hills
BNF - Ryan Handley (BR)
Spoon - Doveton :)
Goal Kicking - Purcell (Ash)

Ashwood to miss the top 4
Jake Chapman on his way to Moorabbin
Patrick Carroll will only play 5 or so games (work and family)
Purcell as all ready left for more money
Lithotomos not happy at the club
De Corrado is too old and slow

If Dovey gets a team up, it'll be between them and Sth Morno for the spoon. Both teams should've been div 4. E hills, Clayton, Narre south and Black rock will all be up there, Ashwood to drop off and the rest are 💩.

Anyone heard about them combining div 3 and 4 because not enough teams have players for both seniors and reserves

Would b the biggest disgrace in the leagues history if they did. If it’s true Doveton and Sth Mornington are struggling for numbers then send them to the thirds comp or division 4 and bring up CPL and Lyndhurst. Enough is enough with taking the pis* outta div3. It has so much potential to be a ripper division. Was pathetic as it is allowing Sth Mornington straight into div3. SFNL need to sort their shi* out ASAP.

Several div 4 clubs were asked to move up a division late last year. They all said no. Most clubs no matter the division want to win the silverware before going up.

Clayton had a convincing win on the weekend just gone over Berwick Springs. Apprently had over 10 of their regular senior side missing as well.
