When are Ooze and Trav (as well as Lamby, Robbo and Powelly) gonna sign?????? I'm getting really nervous seeing as trade week starts on Thursday.

I'm also worried about this situation, the last update I heard was yesterday when the club said they were confident that both Johno and Yze would be signed before the trading period... I wish they had signed them earlier!

Yeah, I read that in the paper today also. I am not terribly worried about it for some reason, as I haven't read a single rumour linking them to any other clubs.

They will be signed, don't worry about that!

Sh*t I wanna remain optimistic. BUT read this, eek!

Blues chase Yze
By MARK ROBINSON and MARK STEVENS
23oct02

CARLTON will today launch a million-dollar ambush for out-of-contract Melbourne midfielder Adem Yze.

Yze returns from Ireland today and will meet Melbourne and Carlton officials before flying out on holidays tomorrow.
Although the Demons expect to retain the 2001 best-and-fairest winner, the Blues are quietly confident they can woo him to Optus Oval.

If Yze decided to leave Melbourne, the Dees would almost certainly ask for the No. 2 selection in the draft.

If the Blues baulk at that - which they will - the gifted midfielder would have to nominate for the pre-season draft, meaning Richmond and St Kilda could entertain taking him if the ballot fell their way.

But Carlton is in pole position because under AFL rules Yze can put a price on his head. That would rule out the Tigers and Saints, who both have bulging salary caps.

Desperate to sign a big name, the Blues will wheel out their big guns - coach Denis Pagan, chairman of selectors Stephen Kernahan, Greg Williams and recruiting manager Shane O'Sullivan - with their proposal, estimated to be about $1.2 million over three years.

It's believed the Melbourne offer is a touch under $1 million for the same period.

It is only slightly higher than the three-year deal Yze has just completed.

There is speculation Yze - for so long the quiet, consummate clubman - is unhappy with the offer considering his years of loyalty and consistent form.

He finished equal third in the Brownlow Medal and won All-Australian selection this year, but finished sixth in the Demons best-and-fairest.

The result shocked many considering Yze won the award in 2001 and was at least as good this year.

At 25, he is at the peak of his powers and this contract looms as the most important of his career.

It is believed Yze has put off a holiday to Queensland with his wife for 24 hours so he can sort out his future.

Yze is in the top five paid players at Melbourne, but the new offer would keep him below the likes of Brownlow medallist Shane Woewodin, Jeff White and skipper David Neitz.

The Demons are under salary-cap pressure and have already asked Woewodin to take a pay cut.

The fact the Demons have no one eligible for the veterans' list gives them less room to move.

The Blues spoke to Yze's management, Elite Sports Properties, before Yze flew to Ireland with the Australian team.

"And we will endeavour to talk to him when he gets back," O'Sullivan said last night.

Yze's manager, Dan Richardson of ESP, said last night: "Adem's preference is to remain at Melbourne."

Melbourne football manager Danny Corcoran said last night the Demons would speak to Yze today.

"Negotiations are continuing, but Adem has been overseas and we'll certainly be speaking to Adem and his management as soon as he returns," Corcoran said.

It's believed the Dees will also stress to Yze that Carlton is no certainty to have a selection in the pre-season draft.

The Blues are being investigated by the AFL for alleged salary-cap breaches.

I tell you what. I will cry for weeks if either of them go. Trav showed how good he really was last year (in some games), imagine if he was consistent!

We can only hope that our offers are good enough. But I guess I'm not that worried because carlton are severely under the pump for salary cap breaches, and surely collingwood are close to their salary cap!

It would be a dark day if either or both of those players left the club.

The story has little/no merit. The main reason Yze hasn't yet signed is because he doesn't get back from Ireland until today, not that he doesn't want to stay at the club, I expect his contact will be signed sealed and delivered sometime today (hope so too). His manager also states that Yze wants to stay at the club.

The reason Trav hasn't re-signed is more to do with price (from what I understand on the situation) and we may have to increase our offer to keep him.

I am more annoyed at the fact that we have paid the likes of Shane Woewodin in excess of 450,000 grand a year and therefore can't afford to pay TJ and Yze the prices they deserve. Woey has all this money coming his way, and he doesn't deserve it.

Make sure he takes a $100,000 dollar pay cut, as that's what deserves to be cut.

Word is powelly is not looking good for next year...I'd rather keep him at a much lower price than the overpaid Woey...

Its amazing what a brownlow can do for your hip pocket and in Woewodins case he is cashing in big time.
He has not kicked on since winning his brownlow and at this stage guys like Yze deserve the bigger bucks and Woey should be asked to take a pay cut

i heard that melbourne have boosted yze's price upto 1.1 mill and it looks like we'll be keeping him now. unfortunitly, it doesnt look like we got enough money for powell :(

It's true that Melbourne have told Powelly that we cannot offer him a contract at this stage, but if we have any money left we will try. This can only be done by offloading abother highly paid player (i.e. Chell, Roboo, Woey) and I rate Powell higher than all 3. I'm hopeful that by the end of the trad period one of those 3 players will be traded for either something young and cheap or a draft pick, and that we can keep Powell. Of course if Woey agrees to take a huge pay cut that will help as well, and Powell may also agree to be on a smaller salary.

hrm, true... im just hoping he stays...

as much as i do like chell, i dont think we NEED him as much as we used to. he doesnt play such a large role any more. and if one had to go between chell or powell, id say chell should be it.

Get rid of stinking Robbo and keep Powell. Simple.

what if we gotta keep the forward?? see powell and chell are both midfielders and we seem to have alot of them...

altho we all know robbo is your least favourite and doesnt do the most, he may be more valuble in the sence that he's a forward.

Molan. Miller. Breese.

I'd put them forward next year before Robertson. Add to the fact we have Neitz, Vardy, Green, Bruce plus a midfielder rotating through half forward, and we have all the forwards we need.

Bugger off Robbo, lol! :D

lol, fine - i cant argue with that... or with you.

even if what im saying is right and you're not, you'll still win with words :o :D
