Ralph Carr spoke to Freo at the end of last year. Asked them to simply best Richmond’s meagre one year offer on a base wage. Bell showed no interest. Looks like he missed one there.
Ah yes because Ralph “honest” Carr would never tell a lie when it comes to negotiating

Richmond offered Shai a 2 year deal at the start of 2018 and he declined it.
Ralph went fishing at the end of 2018 after Richmond offered a meagre one year contract. All Bell had to do was offer a slightly better contract and he was theirs. He showed no interest.

Shame for them. I always thought he would suit playing on the hard dry WA ground. Turns out he does.

So shai will take offence at freo “supposedly “ not bettering Richmond’s MEAGRE offer but somehow not Richmond themselves, who just happened to be the club he actually played for and was meant to be looking after him??
Yeah seems legit

We offered him a better two-year deal, Ralph held out for more, we told him we were running out of money, and by the time he signed that's all we had left in the kitty. Not Richmond's fault - Ralph's. We'll make room for him this year and he'll sign for two years, take it to the bank.

Problem here is tiges put all their eggs in the Tom lynch basket
The kid will look for more opportunity and more money at the club he’s always supported and his dad played for .
The tiges just can’t off this.

Even if this were true...

What would Freo offer up as trade? You'd need to drop down the ladder a fair bit before your first became acceptable.

not gonna start. you want a fair bit

Well, we would.

We took him at 29, when it was a high risk, high reward option.
The risk is a lot lower now, and the reward at least as high....That means his draft/trade value would have increased significantly.

If your did not get Tom Lynch , I think Shai is worth what Adelaide get from Mitch McGowan.

It won't be Shai who leaves the club. It'll be the retirement of Grigg, Ellis most likely leaving via FA and Butler who has fallen out of favour that will allow us to get a deal done with plenty left over.

If Shai keeps going the way he is going, someone will offer him a 4 year $2 m deal.

At the start of the year he was worth a pick in to the 40s or 50s.

He is now worth a pick inside the top 20. And his upside may be one of the highest of any player in the AFL.

Has done way more than Jed Anderson had done at the same age, and he went for a pick in the teens.

Going very early here it's been 4 games and Jed Anderson didn't go for a pick in the teens.

The deal was Jed and a couple of 3rd round picks for pick 15 and 55.

But that was when it was easier to stack multiple **** picks for points more easily. No way that deal gets done under today's rules

You said "Jed didn't go for a pick in the teens". I corrected you.

Played one good game in 3 years and apparently he’s worth a mid 1st round selection hahaha gotta love richmond supporters
This
Yeah their not bad , like you say he’s gone from being on base contract minimum wage, basically worth a token pick to now top 20/first rd pick off the back of one game..
lol

Your valuing seems about spot on. Already wanted the dogs to have a look before this surge in form, but now I'd be really keen. If he does leave the Tigers though, it's almost certainly going to be WA.
More likely we'd go for Butler since he's struggling to force his way in, and were desperate for small forwards
