Fair dinkum did this bloke even play tonight?, he escapes all scrutiny every week and he hasn't kicked a goal in nearly a month...time for the magoos or delist him.
He hasn't been too bad in recent weeks however last night I thought he was the obvious sub for Thomas at any point after half time , how on earth they decided on dea who was playing well despite one marking error I ll be ****ed

He kicked a goal 12 days prior to this match, and at least one in the eight matches prior. Are there 12 days in your month? As for escaping scrutiny every week, I think not. He is a favourite whipping boy. He didn't have a good game last night, but he has been very solid since the Geelong game.

Was surprised Dea was subbed ahead of him. I guess maybe they thought his x factor might help get the result in the end? Dea was providing a bit of run down back. Hope he isn't dropped next week.

I live this footy club, but I'm not going to protect pathetic teams members like this bloke! How is e still getting a game, he been getting away with it for 8yrs the bloke is so
Average and make the biggest clambers at crucial times in games!! and yes I no he occasionally will kick 3 goals and yes that guarantees him a spot for the rest of the season. It's players like him that are
Holding us back.

Doesn't need to do anything. He has got away by doing minimal work for 8years and he still gets a game and most importantly a contract renewal
Good luck to him as he his able to convince a seemingly incompetent coach and administration Group
If there is no yardstick set by the club then he can just mope around doing nothing
This is why members are ropable and bailing out as guys like this lightweight consistently under perform and get a game whereas guys like McDonough bust their guts ,but get dropped

He still had more possessions than our other forwards. People say that either of the Edwards were our worst, but have you analysed why? We fiddled around with the ball across the half back line and middle, and we were so slow at moving it into the fwd line that it was almost always congested. When we did kick it quickly to the forwards it was always aimed at Jack, Azza or Hampson. Also, for long periods it never entered our forward line at all, especially in the 3rd quarter.

At the best of times playing as a small forward can be described as "starvation corner". With the style of game played last night, you can magnify that starvation. All the same, unlike so many of his team-mates Shane made no stuff-ups or turnovers, and actually initiated some precise and constructive play with his hands when he did get an opportunity. He pressured well and laid the best shepherd of the night to allow Lids to run in for his goal. Eight of his 12 possessions were contested, a very high ratio, indicating he was winning the ball at least, unlike some of his team-mates who "received" a lot of their possessions. It wasn't one of his better games, and he needed to be busier, but his previous six were consistently good.

Shane rarely holds on to the ball for long, and opens up play and gets things moving so quickly at times that I swear some people don't even notice the good things he does.
4th in tackles for the season Seriously, do you watch the match, or just listen to the radio? He is constantly running hard to provide an option, and works his butt off chasing the opposition. I don't get this sort of criticism at all. It is not for nothing that he is known at the club as one of the top few for "pressure acts".
I was at the game and seriously what does he do?

It was either of the Edwardses that needed to be subbed off tonight, clearly.
No, lets take off Dea one of our few players with any toe that has a dip. Baffling from the coaches box yet again.

Dea was holding an ice pack to his leg. So he was subbed off due to an injury. Regardless of what Ch7 said.

We've been waiting too long for him to do something. We've seen flashes and keep extended his contract with the hope he'll get it together next year. The cold hard truth of it is he isn't an AFL level player. One of a few players we need to find an upgrade for if we're to ever truly progress.

So far he has kicked 13 goals from 13 games, so averaging 1 goal per game. In terms of possessions of he is averaging 16 possessions a game. Averaging 3.46 tackles per game which is not bad for a small forward.

Maybe Edwards can't read the crumbs of hands, that sort of stuff can't be taught. Maybe he has to have a space of 25 metres between him and the big men and be near their feet for the crumbs.

Just an average player. Does the odd amazing thing, like a freakish pick up or handball but doesn't do it enough.
Don't know why the hell we gave the guy a 2 year extension. I'd be in no rush to resign him. The guys 25 years old, yet it's always "next year".

I think I said earlier before in a thread similar to this that with Shane Edwards just keep it nice and simple. Keep him in a radius of 25m from the big men and if the ball comes to ground then that's when he pounces on it and if he is good enough he can try and find a passage through traffic and kick goals. If he can kick 25-30 goals per year then that is a win for the Richmond Football Club.

The thing is I watch Richmond games on TV, so I can't comment if Edwards is doing what I said above (see dialogue above), so I ask those people who have been to the games and seen Edwards in action - is he doing this? Is he in a radius of 25m away from the big men waiting for the crumbs, or is he sort of lost when the ball comes to ground and if he does get the ball does he know what to do in terms of finding and exit point in traffic etc?

If he can't do that then it makes it hard for him to have a place in the side and also he is not really a marking option up forward so he more or less has to crumb, again I ask is he trying to crumb or at least be in the right spots waiting for the crumb etc?

Cheers.

I love how people knock what Edwards brings to our great club without looking at the facts. He doesn't mind getting his hands dirty which would always please Hardwick plus it helps that he has super quick hands. This is Dimma's dissection of Edwards game...

But I think Dimma has told him having quick hands isn't going to cut it so seems like Dimma has seen the light... I like the idea of playing him in more of a deep role and Hardwick has been doing some personal coaching with Edwards to perfect skills when in a deep situation.

Dimma also mentioned to Edwards that if he does find himself in the middle then he needs to find the ball, get some leather poisoning..
This was hardwick post game showing Edwards how he needs to go around stoppages..
