Madtig whatever you do for a living you should pack it up and just become a weights coach as along with the RFC putting on muscle seems to be your major passion.

I agree though:thumbsu: He's 1180cm so maybe just another couple of kgs. Wouldn't want him to lose his agility. Probably his best assett.

. Bloody hell he's grown!!!

Should be a gun of the future. Needs another 3 or 4kg over this preseason though

it will come dude. Saw him in round 1 and didnt recognise him, he might have a small frame but he is packing the muscle on it..turning into a real good unit for a small. His tackles stick and when he is crunched in a tackle can take the hit and keep his feet. Another year or 2 and he will deliver on what alot here can see. ;)

Well we do have a few players who aren't at the realistic weight to compete their best. The players we have must work on every deficiency to make us a strong unit on the field

Yeah he's getting there. 182cm isn't really that short and 79kg isn't too far off the mark. Probably needs to get to 82 or 83kg to be an all round quality player for his size

Ablett is around 182cm as well, and weigh's in the mid 80's. Ablett doesn't have a big shoulders either. So agree, i think around 82 or 83 would be his ideal playing weight.

weight and height is so over-rated by supporters/ watchers of football. it is one of my pet hates when someone says a player is too small or doesnt weigh enough.

el tigre hit the nail on the head with his post, ablett is average height and average weight for an aussie male...and dominates the AFL

Said it when he was a junior. A more agile version of Daniel Kerr with a better overhead mark, not quite as strong yet, but he'll get there. When we talk about about Foley, Deledio, Cotchin, Martin as a super midfield, Edwards' name will be in there too. Will be a special player.

Have always liked Titch. Hope you are right. He seems to be able to do things others can't.

He will put 8 kgs of muscle on over the summer and when he returns from the jersey shore 'The Titchuation' will be a force to be reckoned with, AA next year, lock it in.

What a fantastic season he had. Played all 22 games.

Top 5 in Kicks
Top 5 in Handballs
Top 5 in Disposals
Top 5 in Tackles
Top 5 in Inside 50s
6th in Rebound 50s

My guess is Top 5 in B&F this year. Looks to be a good addition to our midfield in years to come and seems to have fixed his disposal/decision making too. :thumbsu:

which says what about the rest of the team.

Edwards is a good reminder of why clubs don't throw away some players after two or three years.
I'm confident the club can see the rapid improvement in this kid and encourage him to flourish.
Edwards isn't going anywhere. The haters will have to deal with this.

na your wrong ablett is short for afl but his weight to height ratio makes him exceptional in the afl. hes heavier than most of our talls or on a par with them.

anyway theres nothing wrong with small players but they need to bring something exceptional to the table. i would only look at smalls who have genuine pace genuine footskills they had better be damn good and know where to go to find the ball.
hmm i reckon ablett has all these things and more including a very strong body. bloody hell how many 88kg 182cm players are running around in the afl. he doesnt run away from trouble or thru so many tackles because hes a weed. like judd hes tackled but he always manages break them.

so i would suggest you reasses because el tigre is clearly wrong.
while im on it geelong have another very good small player called chapman hes 3cm shorter than ablett but the same weight. and anyone who thinks size is irrelevant at afl level in my book is a fool. just what did geelong get out of its smaller players apart from ablett and chapman. what did the stick milne offer up or neon leon beams i can go on and on come finals it is imperative that you have plenty of big bodies. unless you play in a dominant side skinnys dont survive. not on a consistent basis anyway.

i used to always quote this its the olympic motto but it still rings true to afl.

bigger stronger faster with decent skills.

back on topic can anyone tell me why edwards improved enough this yr to stay on the list despite his weaknesses. because those weaknesses are still there. i have a theory about it in fact i reckon its the reason why he has improved. at the start of 2010 i would not have given anyone two bob for him.in fact i prefer collins as a player or more to the point collins upside. yet again i may be wrong but i have to say i still dont rate edwards but will say he was worth persevering with another season.

Clears traffic easily. I mean easily. If you can't see this, then I have no hope for you.
Dispoal improved.
Overhead marking improved.
Endurance improved.

Without even thinking, these are the areas he improved in...markedly.

I think you'll find his tank improved quite a bit this season. Was involved two or three times in the one play more often. His evasiveness is pretty good, and a bit more strength has helped him stand up in tackles and stick tackles.

Still tends to bite off more than he can chew at times, and decision making can be questionable. I've always been borderline with him, but was happy with his progress this year. My guess is the club still sees a lot of potential improvement in him, which is what I see also.

Turns 22 in a few days time, so I'm happy for him to see another season or two, and as long as he keeps improving, then I don't mind saying he'll still be in our top 22 in two years time. If he plateaus, then he'll fall by the wayside, and be replaced. I have much more faith that players will actually work hard and improve under the current regime. The players seem to have a bond which sees them wanting to work and improve for each other. All just my opinion of course.

ah mr Dea very good. and one of few posters who is prepared to actually talk about a players strengths and weaknesses percieved or otherwise.

and i agree with all that you have said. in a nut shell he has found ways to buy himself time to use a bit better. thats not to say his delivery skills are crash hot anyway, not for his type and size.
i believe a lot of it also comes from the fact hes getting adequate midfield time despite his inadequacies. one thing i could never understand as a junior he had a huge motor i reckon hes always had it.

in many ways the similarities between collins and edwards is great the one difference is collins is better sklled and makes better decisions. he doesnt have edwards evasiveness though or motor atm.

as you say edwards earnt another yr but imo he needs to continue the growth but i dont think theres much more in him. will he be another whos performance drops of significantly because of an inability to play at or near his very best at all times. time will tell.

Think he'll be a gun in 2 years. What Richmond supporter would want him delisted? Santa is not a Tiger. It's official
