I don't know if this has been brought up before but while watching the win tonight I could have sworn I saw a former tiger champion running around in the number 10 jumper.Being in my late fifties I have watched a lot of games but Shane Edwards reminds me so much of the great Dick Clay. The physical resemblance is uncanny,if he has a career even 10 percent of Clay he will be a good player for your team.
Even though I'm a North supporter and member I bought a Richmond membership this year because I liked the way the club went about improving itself last year.
Keep at it and maybe our teams may again be great rivals like in the 70's

Never saw Dick Clay play but I am one of the few that aren't on Shane's case atm. I like him as a player and the persistance Dimma is showing is sensational imo and it has already started paying dividends with his last 2 performances. In traffic he is really clever and also spread quite well. Best 18 for mine.

I was a fan but his skill level and decision making are too haphazard for my liking. It's one thing to 'take the game on' - quite another to turn back into trouble or sell your teammate into it - or kick it 30 metres from the intended target.

Agreed. But geez, what's happened to his kicking on the run? Shanks them horribly this season.

:thumbsu:Like the player and like the way the coach has handled him!
Good post!

He shows courage, he's fit, he has great evasion and spreads beautifully. Unfortunately his kicking let's him down on occasion. However it's improving.

Better than having someone who has great skills but can't get the pill.

Debatable. Turnovers are super costly. I agree with your positives but skills and decision making are incredibly important in the modern game. I was a big supporter of Edwards last season but he really has to hit more targets.

Clay was before my time but then again he must be before most peoples time on here so Im not sure how anyone can make a comparison.

The way Richmond supporters talked about the "Barrott Bourke Clay" center line makes it rediculous to put Edwards in that category. He is a bloke doing an admirable job in finding a place in a team in the bottom end of the ladder.

Dont see any comparison that can be taken seriously.

Always runs himself into trouble
Never steadies when he kicks
chooses wrong option
Goes to ground too many times
And i dont think he is as quick as we have been led to believe
If we can do a Grigg Collins deal I will be happy.
Crows have too many talls

I truly beleive young Titch is strarting to find gradual consistency in his game. I'd be sorry to see him go but, as for trading for a tall from the Crows, naturally Tippett , Walker and McKernan are off limits, which leaves Maric for Edwards. Factoring in that big Ivan is languishing in the SANFL!

Some tigerheads really need to take a chill pill with titch. From what i have seen in the last 2 games, he has regained some of his composure and is hitting the ball sweetly when kicking. Great come back and keep it up Titch.;)

Come on Cogga. You saw Dick Clay play. Who would you prefer?

With all due respect man, but Dick Clay would last a quarter tops in the modern game.
You cant compare what players have to endure now with what players had to endure then. People seem to forget how much running has to be done by the modern day player and then after all that run, they need to compose themselves and kick the pill like a laser or they are bagged.

All i am suggesting is that prior to the last couple of games i was shaking my head at the comical **** ups Titch was giving us. The last 2 weeks have been a marked improvement, and the brainst trust should be commended with their trust in his ability. I mean, everyone is going gaga at Martins raking 50m passes, but Titch is another that can nail them in that way too.
Titch in form is a real good thing for us.;)

I really like having Edwards in the team. I think we just need to be patient - he showed really good signs last year and in the past couple of games as CoggaRules said. I think that the patience that was showed by the selection committee in the first few games of this year is starting to pay off. He could be one of our best players in years to come so we should give him time. I never saw Dick Clay play, so impossible for me to compare, but I reckon we are lucky to have Edwards on our list so happy with him.

dick clay was a strong overhead markand alot bigger than edwards . he played on wing then became a fullback nothing like edwards

his ball handling and decision making is good, execution at times is poor, not all the time but too often at this level

Got to agree and disagree. His execution this season has been awful but the last two games i can only think of 1 really bad kick. He is so clever by hand, has run and dash and would have to be almost the most evasive player in the AFL

If you go back to last year he was fine at this level skill wise this year has been a worry but he is putting it behind him and is a very good player going forward. Held in very high regard by the coaching staff, and i know for a fact they consider his potential to be A grade.

You forgot about young Sellar or Talia, all of these talls cannot play in the one team.
I would take Talia over Edwards in a heartbeat but they wouldnt do that.

In my eyes he's been the most dissapointing thing about 2011 so far as a Tiger. I say that sadly, after a bit of a breakout last year I had reasonably high hopes for the guy this year. Let's not beat around the bush, he has been poor. Hope he turns it around, probably needs (and deserves) a spell at Coburg, but as long as we're winning I wouldn't change the team.

this is exactly how edwards started last year. pathetic, then after 6 or so rounds he was brilliant and a certain starter.

i love his evasiveness, creativity and ball sense, but we cant be carrying players who for a solid quarter of the year play so bad that they are not just useless, but are detrimental to the team when they actually get the ball.

if he cant cut this aspect out of his game then his only chance is as an evasive crumbing fp.
