Told you :D

He is not a centre half forward, he's just a bloody good forward.
But on that first goal, how was Duncans pass?

That is probably the classiest thing I have seen a Geelong player do all year.
At the end of a long run where he busted his gut so that he could take a bounce and then he has the composure to chip it left footed to command Kersten to come back and get it.

Been calling it for a while, along with Daz and a few others. Had little doubt he could impact coming in, he just has that aura of knowing what he can do, doesn't seem to have that doubt like the Walker/Brown types have had had early on. The others probably know this as well and are more comfortable going to him. Holds the marks he should clunk and kicks the goals he should kick - if Walker could've held the uncontested marks we need late in the game yesterday it could have really helped. He drops too many soda's.

You could sense it when they interviewed him last week. "Been a long time coming" and when asked what he thought his strengths are, with a smug smile "Oh I reckon I go OK around goals" - he knows he's got, he knows he's ready and that's a good thing. Watch this space. No injuries, please!

Excellent start. Not all his games will be that good though. Still need to give him time and be patient.
Spot on , and there will be days he looks "off" , and we should not immediately get out the darts and make him the dartboard.

Other teams will have known of him , but now will really know off him. The one thing is he has shown he is a legit AFL option. Loved his mum and step dad on KRock before the game too. When he talked about the West clubs that had picks and how Melb said they would take him at 35 but h would be gone... has loved Geelong, small big town....How Mrs Selwood said we do it as good as anyone...

On our setup would a pre knee Menzel look good along side him and Hawk

I missed it trying to find a quality stream *cough*, any footage?

On topic, I think he had a very good debut, above what I thought he would do (but not what I expect he COULD do). Exciting future thats for sure and I can't wait until next year to see both him and Vardy playing alongside Hawkins, I believe I'd do my avatar when I see those 3 together.

HF: Lang, Vardy, Motlop
FF: Kersten, Hawkins, Menzel

Would love to get that setup one day...

Why did you say that name!

Sorry, but you're absolutely dreaming.

However GFC has signed Menzel to another 1 year deal for 2015 so they must think he is some chance ! If he was no chance then they would have delisted him at year's end and had another spot and money for a ND pick.

As for Vardy - he is rated by the MC as KPF - and although we have seen little evidence of his abilities they obviously think he is better than Brown, or Walker or Kersten as a KPF. So if he gets over his knee reco well he will be in the side next season for sure.

As for Lang - he may play part time as a forward to get him senior exposure. The rest of that line up are already in the forward line.

So I agree it is an unlikely line up but obviously GFC believe there is still a chance it will happen !

Brown also kicked 3 in his first game.
This is true. My point though was, that from my outside perspective, Kersten oozes confidence and self-belief which I think is 90% of the battle with young footballers. His team mates sense this and are then confident in him also.

Walker and Brown seem to lack this natural confidence and in return so do their team mates. Walker being a good example with the regulation marks he drops at senior level, he would swallow those all day in the VFL but he doesn't at senior level. It has to be between the ears.

I've said it for the last 12 months that Kersten would slot in well at senior level, and yes, it's still to be proven 100% but I stand by it. He does the basics well and believes in himself 100% - I don't feel that with Walker/Brown, in the same way Hawkins frustrated us early on. You could see the potential but he just couldn't lock into it mentally and then it just 'clicked'. He realized he could impact a game and from there believed it and continued to do it. I see really good potential in both Brown and Walker but they need more experience to feel they belong - it's not as natural to them. It seems that way to me anyway...

As someone who gave the Kersto bandwagon a push ages ago I really hope those who think he'll be player ease back a tad with the hype.

It was an encouraging first-up game against an inexperienced back half. There will be games where he'll disappoint during his AFL journey. Let's just let him find his way without burdening him by expecting too much too soon.

Now looking forward to seeing Cowan get an injury free run so a few here can eat some humble pie.;)

Agreed. But it's a fine line to find, (containing the excitement) after screaming all year for a decent CHF.
Bloody great to see.
Plus he wears blue boots, making...It's the "ShaKer"... calls earlier at our joint.
Now if only Murdoch would return to his red boots.

Giving a player time to establish himself in top company is a reasonable thing to do. Settle!:)

We probably don't quite see eye-to-eye on the matter of where he'll play most of his forward half footy either. Particularly in his formative years.

Just check out the first minute of this, CS, to see Kersten's first 2. His 3rd is just before the 4 min mark of the video. Don't miss Motlop's ace goal, either.

You don't like Italian commentary?

Jeebus TC, just had to sit through six Bennell goals again, first off on that link.
Several of the easiest goals ever through endless space, at that.
Still he was good, the kid.
So was ours.
:)

That's weird- I enjoyed the first minute or two, which had Kersten kicking his first two AFL goals, then came Motlop's... (I actually fast forwarded through to check if Kersten's 3rd goal was there as well. Why would you be so masochistic and watch Bennell cutting us up again, PIS?)

aha- but he has an Italian grandmother, I think :) That'd surely do it.

oops oops oops!!! that's grandFATHER!!! not grandMOTHER!!! ;( (mi dispiaco molto!!)

I actually knew that, because of this thrice-cursed may-he-forever-rot-in-hell GF-stealing so and so:
