The Beveridge analogy is absolutely spot on. Blokes like Beveridge and Morwood were both good solid honest AFL players and hence have an innate understanding of what it is like to be like that. This clearly extends to their coaching/man management.
Try elite in the James Clement mould. Would figure in the best backline of the last 50 years.

I loved Morwood, he had great skills on both sides and was one of the best value picks in the New Magpies era, but I think Clement was a step up. He won 2 bnf's and was unbeatable in his prime 1 on 1.

Yeah Shane Morwood was silk off half back. He was a lot better than just a good honest footballer.
Now Micky Gayfer on the other hand...;)
