Shane Warne's View on Australian Cricket

I guess no coach from a champion team rates a mention then?

It's a variable that makes it really hard to judge, is all I'm saying. Don't think that's an unreasonable statement.

Your word was "impossible".

It's pretty hard to judge the best cricket coach, but at very least he was adequate and given our sustained dominance including 15 successive wins on two occasions, I'd say he was pretty darn good.

Buchanan inherited the best team and then they became incredible. Would you rate him higher if he had inherited the third best team and taken us number one?

But the margin of the improvement would arguably be the same, and possibly more to go from number one to comfortably number one than from third to first.

It's arguable whether or not the improvement is the same, or down to the coach (or rather the natural talents of the players). At the end of the day we can't prove the other right or wrong so no point debating, just opinion.

We won 16 Tests straight. 16 Tests straight. But Buchanan deserves almost no credit because "A blind monkey could've coached that team". To 16 straight Test wins?

Right.

Thats probably the worst logic I have ever seen.

How is that the worst logic?

If you the third best and a 10% improvement makes you the best, then that is the same as if you are first and make a 10% improvement.

I liked the way he nonchalantly referred to his proposed CEO as "Tub", his proposed national team assistant coach as "Boof", and to Hussey and Bevan as batting "coach's".

Is Warwick Todd ghostwriting Warne's blog or summat?

The same principle is used in relation to Ponting's captaincy by some here.

Form is going to drop pretty quickly if players keep getting injured due to being over-worked.

Because he's no good at limited overs cricket.

What's the problem with long-term thinking, exactly?

No, I can't, because Hawthorn is going for a premiership every year, whereas Australia is going for a World Cup every four.

We don't know them as well as he does, and that's the point - he picked them because he knows them too well. Do you think most of the people at CA knew Pat Howard really well before they chose him? How many would've been best friends with John Inverarity or Mickey Arthur?

The best cricket brain on the field (which most here would agree Warne had, or if he didn't then was very close) does not normally translate to off-field administration.

Respect your opinion but differ from it in probably every way.

I'm quite blown away by some of your reactions here.
My opinion is this.
I think Warne is 100% correct on his theory behind selection. Pick the best team available to represent Australia. And keep that team together until form drops and there are guys in the wing in the type of form that they warrent selection.
I can't stand this bullshit rotation. Moses Henriques selection in the 1 day side was an absolute disgrace.
Can I sk why Peter Siddle hasnt been considered for any short form of the game. He's our best fast bowler but simply overlooked why.
Why wasnt Mike Hussey picked for any of the limited over games. He was raring to go. Let me guess, coz he's not in the plans for the next World Cup. Stiff shit, so we give shit trucks games for AUSTRALIA while we leave proven, in form guns out becuase they are not in pur plans for a competition that doesnt take place in 2015.
Can just imagine a footy club, say the Hawks (my team); sorry Sammy, we're leaving you out for round 1, 2013; we know you're physically capable, and have made yourself available; it's just that we don't see you in our plans for 2015. Ridiculous. Nothing can justify this.

And then onto his "dream team" So all you knockers know the guys he proposed better than him do you.

I found it a refreshing read. I know some people in the inner circle of Aust cricket going back to Warne's era; to a man they all say Warne had by far the best cricket brain.

You know what makes me laff about this too, is that they are preparing for 2015, yet by the time it comes around they will have chopped and changed so much using this 'player management' system, that they still won't know what their best XI is, and the squad members will have played a combined total of about 10 games with each other. It just makes no sense whatsoever.

the 5 pillars

1. Put fans first;
2. Produce the best teams, players and officials in the world;
3. Increase participation substantially and inspire the next generation of players and fans;
4. Provide world-class leadership and management and unify Australian Cricket;
5. Grow investment in the game.

while i agree the fans are a massively important part of where cricket should be going, i'm not sure they should be number 1.

How the **** can Hughes and Khawaja not be first 11 but Marsh and Ferguson are?

Why is Coulter-Nile ahead of Bird and Starc?

Good thing he didn't put himself on the selection panel as that is horrible looking side. How on earth does Hughes get dropped given what he has done since returning to the side, and the bloke is averaging over 50 atm in ODIs and has 2 hundreds, definitely deserves a good run.
