You cant get more then the maximum. But charges could be upgraded or down graded. Even with a prior bad record its rare to get a maximum sentence

The penalty is just an upper limit. Judges/Magistrates will use their discretion when sentencing unless the offence has a mandatory penalty.

Australia not a utopia back then? Great Barrier Reef is pretty cool.

It's not related to MJ's or Yarran's situation but lots of indigenous teenagers especially from smaller towns take part in aboriginal ceremonies and try to "give up on society", because they are struggling with it. Ceremonies such as the Bora aren't easy and many don't want to chop their d**k off. It's not easy feeling like you're living limbo and feeling like you don't belong in either world. The Kimberley region has one of the highest suicide rates in the world and I'm sure it's to do with not adapting to modern day comforts.

Mate. Most of australIA is a wind blown desert with temperatures ranging from minus at night to 45' in the day. No running water. You had to set the scrub on fire to burn the decent tucker out. Then you worried about the neighbours attacking you and stealing your daughters.
