When was the last ******* time we picked up a quality mid from another team? Time we got serious and started throwing our weight and money around the comp and enticing quality mids to the club. We have some real idiots running the recruiting department.

Probably been 10 years since Tyson Stenglein came on board. Not a quality mid but a quality tagger.

As for Wellingham he hasn't lived up to what I thought he'd bring. Did the Collingwood team make him look better than what he is? Possibly so

he is Des Headland 2.0. Has the talent and tools to be great but not the application.

When wellingham came to the club he had a very good pre-season and looked super fit but then this year he looked nothing like it.

I don't think he's a midfielder ..I said this earlier in the thread

I'm yet to be convinced he's a midfielder ...he does t have the engine (sorry for the overused cliche of engine) but he doesn't have it

He's burst player ......he's either going to be a half forward ....not tall enough

Or small forward ....that's it

Agree, doesn't seem to be able to go through midfield.

I don't see an issue with him being played on a flank. Although that's basically a midfielder these days anyway.

He's too skinny to be an inside mid in that he would get buffeted off the ball too easily

Not tall enough to be half back flanker either, nor is he great overhead

Umm it's seems like he got off the plane from Victoria and lost all of his ability as he drive out of the airport

From a really good player who was valuable in their premiership win to an average one in 15 months .....

Small forward or half forward yes ....

Or work on his endurance so he could become a tagger maybe

He's actually quite good overhead for his size.

Taller and same weight as G Ablett. Why would he get buffeted off because of his "skinniness"?

Was a regular goal kicker at the Pies as a half forward flank rotating in bursts through the midfield which is where I feel he would be best used for us, rather than a predominant midfielder who rests forward.

Don't think he was ever that good. He was behind swann, pendlebury, thomas, beams, sidebottom and Ball in the midfield. Over paid for the 7th best midfielder at Collingwood

i said it right off the bat when we gave up a first round pick for him and was shot down repeatedly by the "experts" here.

he's a glorified hack.

worst eagles trade of all time (cripps not far behind).

Idiots claiming he's been played full time midfield all year..

Do some research and get a grip. He has played off the flank several times this year and has had minimal impact, hence why most of us on here were annoyed why he wasn't given more midfield time to showcase his worth

You've got people saying "Oh well i've always said he should be played off a flank..." get off your high horse.

You summed him up perfectly

Do you pay pick 18 for a player who isn't capable of playing as a full time midfielder and isn't a kpp?

Considering his form in 2013 and 2014 we well and truly paid overs, bowing to the demands of Collingwood. If he was part of Collingwood's best midfield than it's justified but as has been mentioned he was probably 7th in line as a midfielder and best used as a burst player to relieve Swan, Pendlebury, Beams and co.

If we can mould him into that role for WC think we will see a different and better Sharrod in 2015, not racking up 30 touches a game but 15 to 20 and putting scoreboard pressure on. Possible defensive forward?

Yes agree completely

He's never going to be an elite mid, geez I hope I'm wrong and he does develope into an elite mid but can't see it at all

Would be good to see him up forward. His skill might get us 3 or 4 goals a game.

I think he could play forward

I did see him in one game ...v Carlton...early in the game ...the ball went in huh and it came off the pack and hit the contest with speed ...read it perfectly and snapped a beautiful goal ...now yes it's just one goal but the movement and positioning was perfect and the gather was clean .....

I said then geez he's got good sense around goals and read it well

He's worth a go
