well i finally got to watch the game - the first thing i saw was the stupid free kick against massie.
I realise the umpires may not have lost us the game but bloody hell they tried hard.

we burnt the ball badly injuries didn't help, lets just hope other results go our way this week to keep us in the 8

Didnt think Welsh was all that bad tbh and cmon guys dont use the umpires as an excuse. We were 4 goals up, if we start making excuses we are no better than the Socceroos.

Simple fact is that with the injuries and changes to our structure, we were scrapping and fighting to stay in there. So when we were desperately hanging on, the decisions which went against us didn't help.

With Bass out, Rutten is probably our most important player, when we lost him, we were always going to be in strife.

Teams can't win games when the free kick count is that out of proportion. Crows really need to work on the frees. Maybe get the umpires to come and explain their rules to us...and while their there slip them some lunch money :thumbsu:

You talking about the deliberate?

It was clearly deliberate.

Perhaps we didnt have any other option but did any one else wonder why Massie was left to the slaughter for so long. Riewoldt single handedly dragged them back into the game giving them a target. I'm waiting for the stats to hit the website to see how many marks he ended up with. Love to have a target in the Crows colours like that, and then have him stand an opposition player half his size every week.

18 :o

We ARE in strife, now I didnt see Ruttens injury as I was watching the debacle Bangkok, how bad is it ??

FFS, it was only 6.

We've been dealt with far worse this year.

Give it a rest.

Waa waa waa the umpires.

Can't you find any other reason as to why we lost?

Rutten didnt help but Reiwoldt was a problem before he went off.

.

this is an important point to remember.

Anyone wanting to blame this loss on injuries needs to remember that the rot set in in the Midfield way before Rutten was injured.....and.....the other significant injury being Roo.....was in fact our only avenue to goal in the latter stages of the game.

Pav, Fev, Riewodlt.

Throw one of those at any of them.

I said we didn't play well. But every free kick is basically giving them a free mark. When those frees are inside 50, they are shots at goals.

And your right! We have had worse, and tonight shows what happens when it comes down to the wire, that it can cost us games.

yes - but so were 20 other out of bounds but they weren't paid

stop being the devils advocate - it doesn't suit you

I'm not being the devils advocate.

At least the others sort of disguised their deliberates, didnt just walk straight out of bounds like Mass.

I agree - but they don't help.

if rutten is out from a match or two selection is going to be interesting

Bock goes back - Sellar goes forward :D

Was clearly his intention. But it's very rare to see it paid. I found it amusing that when it happened up the other end it was allowed.

Jee, tonight brought back memories of 2004. It really did. Undersized backman being easily shoved around bigger opponents. No forward structure after 1/4 time, every 3rd kick going straight to a St.Kilda player.

Inconsistency just gives ya the shits doesn't it. Millionaires one week.............:thumbsd:

Indeed, a team should be able to win regardless of the umpiring decisions, but in a close games incidents like the deliberate out of bounds, and the hand across McGregors face that the umpires clearly got wrong do hurt the team.
In a 2 point loss most people would say that luck plays some part, without making excuses (yes we did not play terribly well tonight) how can you not include umpires as a sort of "luck". I know most clubs probably think this (heck, even Collingwood supporters complain-that is ridiculous) but for ages we've been getting shafted. Having said that the umps played no part in us blowing our 4 goal lead so we really only have our selves to blame in a sense. Losing your best defender (and others) doesnt help either.

I am not sure who I was angrier at... our players, their players or the damned inconsistant umpiring

We started shakily, but by the end of the first quarter, looked like the team that flattened Hawthorn last week. At quarter time we apparently swapped our players for a bunch of look a likes . What the bloody hell are we doing MENTALLY with our players???? We cannot afford to go missing mentally like we are every other week. These boys need to be read the riot act because, although I know they try... they are either thinking they are better than they are (and turn off the heat), or thinking they arent. Either way it's not good enough. Lucky to make the 8 now. Top 4 spot is all but gone. :(

I thought Scott Welsh played an awesome game tonight - kicked a couple and assisted in at least three others with his defensive pressure. McLeod, Goodwin and Edwards were brilliant in the first quarter - but after amassing the possessions they did last week probably ran out of fuel by the 2nd. I thought Thommo and Radar had possibly the worst games Ive seen - the clanger count was massive. Massie tried his best but was given a bath by Riewoldt. Rutten was beaten long before he was injured (as he always is by a leading forward). We desperately missed Bassett tonight. Douglas did a few good things but certainly not the spectacular. Knights was brilliant for most of the game (went quiet when everyone else did in the second) - but he's going to be a star that lad. Roo.... my god his body must be a mess. Kicked two crucial goals... but cannot chase if his life depended on it. That is not a good scenario :( VB was serviceable (much better than last week, but not up to his best). Maric's mark was brilliant and I saw a couple of hit-outs, but again, I don't know if he is better than Griffin. Huddo tries hard but geez he's struggling. Anyone notice he rarely kicks the ball?

Maric > Griffin.

I'm not sure what you're on Jenny, but can I have some?

Ivan Maric was absolutely superb for a young ruckman. 9 Possesion, neat skills, a couple of nice grabs, 4 tackles and 15 hitouts.

Not sure what more he has to do.

Oh for god sake, port beat brissy up there with a ridiculously lopsided free kick count. The umpires didnt make us lose this game, the fact we can't hit a target did....
