Review Shattered

I'm irritated rather than shattered. All the ****ing around in the forward line really gives me the shits. Too much reliance on jagged goals not enough solid, repeatable goal scoring plays.

Yeah I am far from shattered, however it is games like this that the good clubs win.

Players have up and down games, just looking forward to getting some players back to put pressure on.

Guys like McPhee and Duffield have some credit in the bank with me.

Maynes kicking was sub par for an AFL forward.

MJ can be pushed back to being a sub and see if solves his half a game effort.

There will be a lot of video review material here, Roberton twice missed shepherds and blocks that I would expect a junior to make.

What our club really needs is Ibbotson and Barlow to get back on the field.

Where the **** has our intensity gone?!?! This time last year we were ravenous!! Hunting the ball carrier in packs! What the hell happened to this game plan?! We didn't work on it ONCE during the preseason, it was all just running, running, running in preparation for this stinking rule that'll last all of 1 season. So in terms of development of gameplan we'll forever be a year behind.

Our backline hasn't half the composure of last year, our forwardline hasn't half the pressure of last year.

Walter incident - this happened right in front of me. It was either a goal (ie. Walter marked it over the line) or a mark (ie. Walter marked it in front of the line). The goal umpire was incorrect, and should be dropped for such a ridiculous mistake.

McPhee - I am not one to get angry with single players, but you can **** off back to Essendon. How dare you allow an opposition player to get the footy right in front of you, then just casually take a stroll while he runs off towards goal. If my apple didn't cost so much, I would've ditched it at your head.

Transperth - You can suck my 1 inch.

This really gives credence to my theory.

My theory is all pr0n websites were removed from the internet there would only be one website called "Bring back the pr0n"

This in particular.

How can you be so wrong? All of the time.

I'd have to look at the replay again but i was sure he fumble it as he went over the line. Which means he wasn't in control before crossing the line, thus it is a behind. I am of course only basing this on what I saw on the big screen.

Yeah it definitely looked like he fumbled it over - but I'd like to see a proper side on replay because I reckon a case could be made that it was already over before he touched it.

His feet looked like they were right on the line and then he was reaching further back for the ball. Not that it matters now I spose.

Was a frustrating loss no doubt.

Still I think the the signs are less ominous than they may seem.

I see your season as being the opposite to last year. Instead of coming out of the blocks firing you still have key players injured or striving for form after an interrupted pre-season.

If you avoid any more injuries to key players (Pav, Mundy, Sandilands, McPharlin) then I think it could be more of a slow boil where you hit peak form from somewhere after the midpoint of the season.

I just watched the second half (from TV view this time). Still can't actually believe we lost that. We were all over them. Just shocking kicking for goal. Really unbelievably bad.

Horrible kicking for goal cost us. I mean, 18 ****ING BEHINDS! If we had converted just two of those we win, I personally was shattered after this, will definitely come back to bite us in the arse at seasons end.

The 3rd quarter was particularly painful, and I still don't know what roles Johnson and Palmer are filling for this team.

Would drop Crowley, Johnson and Duffield, I know they are integral players but seriously you should be picked on the strength of your last game and all these guys were terrible tongiht.

EDIT: The latitude Chapman recieved was ridiculous, clearly their most dangerous player and our blokes played 5-10 metres off him the whole goddamn night, the goal he kicked in the last was so laughable, everyone except our defenders could see it happening a mile away.

Talk about shattered.

Adelaide, NM, WB.

The next three games we face teams coming off their bye fully rested (thank you AFL). True, could look at it as those teams may be 'outta' form after the breaks. But the way this new interchange is working we are going to have to be super fit to match 'em. We will really need some more players in.

I'm surprised by the amount of negativity and crap like the old freo are back.

We outplayed Geelong. No doubt about it. We lost because we couldn't kick straight on goals. A couple of players need a rocket, for sure.

I'm not sure how, but from reading a lot of comments on this board - not just this thread - it would appear we played bad, gutless, skill deficient football, to go down by 11 points against the Cats. Obviously this is rubbish. We played bloody good football and got beaten by Geelong going through the corridor a few times, and by failing in our finishing. The endeavor was brilliant, the end to end running play was very good most of the time. We had the ball locked in our forward half for long periods, purely because of our tackling and intensity.

Cut the crap people. It was a very disappointing loss, but we played bloody well for most of the game. And we showed a ton of guts and grit. Geelong could have blown the game apart at several times and every time they got their noses out in front we pegged them back through grit and determination. If we fine tune a couple of things and get our kicking boots back on, we will be formidable.

Well done selggad, you are the only one who gets it. When the injured players come back into contention there'll be list pressure for the players to perform each week. At the moment that is not the case and we need bad performances to be turned around in the first 22, and the players given the confidence to be able to. There is nobody that is proven to step up and perform better against a hardened team like Geelong without exposing green players or rewarding mediocre wafl performances.

the trouble with having a history of failure is that as soon as we lose, most people fall back on worst case scenarios and the self flaggelating resumes. some of the posts around here referring to the 'old freo' are symptomatic of that. it creates this shroud of fear around our club like a ghoul lurking in the background, and we hold our breaths for the next time we trip.
i think we probably need a winning culture of a good five years before the scars of the past can be ignored.

Seriously it was a disappointing loss but we haven't had the greatest pre-season, we have a few players that are not playing up to their standards, we have some starters missing.

We should have won that game. No question. We didn't, however it's not all doom and gloom.

Kicking for goal and disposal seemed an issue for most of the players last night, just weren't good enough in tight esp. when we had the run of play.

We will get better as opposed to last year when we were on fire when everyone else was building up..

It's Round 2 people please try harder to keep the faith.

Probably. Sometimes people see things that just aren't there, like a poor forward structure. Yet that structure had more than enough opportunities to win the game. Had we kicked straight, we'd all be raving about how good our forward line played.

IMO, the only real concern is that Geelong might not be that good. I guess we'll find out next week.

Why is it that some people seem to think that 4 points in Rd 2 are somehow worth less than 4 points in Rd 20?

4 points = 4 points and are invaluable at ANY time of the season. You put yourself in a position to win, you must win and lock away those 4 points. It's all well and good to say we outplayed them, and not to bag anyone out, and don't worry we'll be up and firing come the business end of the season... but what if this loss is the one that bites? That costs us a position in the 8 cos we didn't win when we should have?

We should have won last night, but we ****ed it up and handed the 4 points to the opposition.

That's 4 points in our tally that we won't have come the end of H&A and could very well cost us dearly. It's not like that has never happened before.

Nobody has said that 4 points isn't valuable! We just choose not to abandon the players that have not yet found form. Can't build team depth if you show no faith in the players to turn their games around. How do you raise the confidence of your struggling students? Suspend or put more work into them?

I am completely shattered still.

I will be p*ssed if Johnson ever plays another game for Freo again, he is disgraceful.

Walters made a complete selfish decision going for the mark and I don't care what anyone says. We will not be successful as a club until the players put the team game above their own. I believe Keplar made a similar mistake last week against Brisbane.

Also, just because a player is 7 foot doesn't mean you can hang off him without giving away a free kick.

I said to my fiancee' walking out, all summer I was hanging for the football to start yet not once during that period did I feel as shattered as I did tonight. I love my footy but hate it oh so much.
we all should be getting very worried if jonno gets another chance next week.

I don't know what was the more frustrating thing, the crap umpiring or the crap kicking for goal. I think we are still underdone from a poor pre-season. We improved greatly on last weeks performance though and should get better from here.

I thought Harves would have moved Pavs to CHF given our inside 50s with lack of goals.

Lots to work on this week at training. Loved Hilly, Ballas and Mundy last night too BTW.
