Toast Shaun Hampson

There are so many deserved toast threads after such an emphatic performance by the lads last night, but the lack of one for Hampson is a little mystifying.

Everyone has been saying how he can't stick his marks and especially can't take a contested mark, but we're now seeing his confidence grow in this area. I reckon if he's left to play that deep forward role for the rest of year and then hone his forward skills in the off season, he could be a real weapon up forward for us next year.

OK, last night he was a little wayward in front of goal, but who isn't from time to time.

When he went into the ruck he was very effective as well, against one of the supposedly premier ruck combinations in the competition.

Hats off to you Hammer ... after an injury interrupted first half of the season, you're proving to the doubters that you can fulfill your potential!

Great game by Hammer. He is improving apects of the game one by one. First his positioning, now his sticking the marks. Next will be his radar. He will then be a very dangerous and hard to match up on forward.

He's a big unit and very mobile - came to the game late and lacks instinctiveness, but if he keeps improving the way he has and he can get several good games in a row under his belt then he could be the next big thing in a couple of years!

the guy just needs confidence...still looks a bit tentative but boy do i love watching him...absolute unit...just gimme some more one grabbers hammer....

With a full pre-season to work on his hands and spend more time in the gym, I reckon he could be a scary match up next year.

Still nowhere near as big as Mumford and Pyke.

Yet Hooker and Hurley weren't big enough and fast enough to go with him on a lead.

Good kicking action gained from his soccer background, so he's a nice kick for goal.

I really love the idea of this guy playing FF. Fast. Strong. Big. Would get the #1 big defender every week if he's developed there. Helps Waite and the small forwards no end. Sad to say it, but so much more potential here than Setanta.

Getting much better.

Needs to learn to either give off a handball straight away or push off the mark quicker. Can often stand at the mark waiting for an option running past that never comes.

It always comes from the better sides, MoMan.

Holds the ball weird when taking a set shot but I guess if he feels it works for him, then god speed!

would also like to see him take marks Kreuzer style (ie. hands straight up) instead of 'clapping' on it :S. looks nice but makes things harder.

played really well against the bombers though :thumbsu:

hamps my boy :) he and warnock and ellard made me cream :D
great to see them improving, we have potential on this list, just gunna get the odd few bad games like recently where its hard to see potential

At times, Hampson drops the ball from far too high and lays back on his kicks so he doesn't get the right purchase on the ball.

Good kicking action though.

How good is it seeing Hampson running through the middle with the ball like a mid?

Hammer@2.00 minute mark
