I could not agree more. His best is AVERAGE and he has been that way his whole career. He should have been delisted years ago. Why the f*ck people defend him I will never know. I have two good mates who seem to be blind to his poor disposal and bad decision making and yet when we lose they say that our delivery to our forwards was not good enough and we caused too many turnovers. Well guess who is at least partially responsible for that? McManus. (not that he is the only one)

He must be a very likable guy because I have seen Fremantle trade away players with greater talent than him like Clement, Bell (in '95), Leigh Brown, McFee, Sinclair, and probably a lot of others I can't think of right now. He doesn't pick himself, so in a way I feel like it is not entirely his fault for being in the team, but what really shits me is that he seems to get a game based on popularity. Fremantle will never be successful when they 'reward' mediocre players by continually picking them.

This season he seems to have added a new 'talent' to his repertoire. As well as his usual hand balling to guys that are flat footed, kicking the ball 'on the bounce' to team mates, and usual reckless tackles, he has added dropping easy chest marks. He dropped 2 of them yesterday and I have seen him drop several over the season.

If Fremantle offer this guy a new contract for next year you can bet they will not go anywhere in 2008. I don't mind him being on the list as a depth player, the trouble is that he gets played in the middle and as a result he will be in the top few for highest possession winners. These stats don't really tell the truth as they don't take into account how many of his disposals are to the advantage of the team. Even a so called 'effective disposal' can be kicked/handballed directly to a guy, but if that guy is flat footed it may not, and usually isn't, to the advantage of the team. McManus puts his team mates under the pump like that all too often.

And the reason I would like him most to be gone, is because I don't want the younger guys coming through to be picking up his bad habits.

I have been saying this for years and getting hammered by those around me who support him. All too often it’s the next possession that gets turned over because they are put under the pump by Macca. No one doubts his endeavor but he simply is not up to the standard we need.

I'm tipping an announcement on Wednesday.

I'm tipping 70,000 teary eyes at 4.40pm Saturday.

I hope you're right DRD, but I reckon he'll get a one year deal. If Bell commits to 2008 there is more chance of Macca being pushed, that gives us 2 reasons to hope Belly plays on!

I just watched ten news and Hasleby reckons Macca played great on the weekend and that Harvey definitely wants to give him a contract it 2008...

Nooooooooo!!!!!!

I'm not going to try to defend Shaun here - I'm sure he's tough enough to look after himself - just to offer a bit of explanation. I had a little bit to do with Shaun in his early years in the WAFL and he stood out by miles then as one of the most competetive people I've ever met. It's maybe this competetiveness that the Dockers people find attractive. The sort of bloke that makes others work harder at training etc.

According to Lachie Reid McManus was called into Harvey's office last week and told that he's a required player in 2008.

While I would really, really have liked to see Macca retire, I am sure he is under no illusions of where his career is at. He's on the Vets list, so is not taking up a spot on the main list, and with Parker retiring, Foster likely to be upgraded permanently, and Copping and Rumble probably gorn - there will be a few rookie spots available to us on draft day. I've watched Macca closely at training - he works hard, and is always encouraging the young blokes and directing traffic. He's a good leader and well respected by the players by the looks of things. As long as he doesn't get a Gold Pass stamped on his selection, then another year is no big deal really.

I haven't seen one player play a worse quarter of football this season, than McManus's first quarter his errors resulted in goals. He puts in a quarter like that every single game that I have watched.... he then goes on and plays an 'average' 3 quarters of football. No one in our team plays worse than McManus can........ and 25 of them can play better at their best.

It's been that way his whole career, no one could ever ever ever ever ever tell me I am wrong.

This man talks the truth.
He is always hard at the ball but for a senior player (someone the boys to look up too) he makes some bloody silly mistakes.
Time to give some new blood a go. Brock O'Brian could fill his shoes i'm sure!!!

I have got no problem keeping Macca on the list for 2008. He is a vet and will keep some pressure on the players in the 22. As long as he isnt considered a top 22 player then there is no problems.

Well put as usual I.P. He said that last year and I'm sure he wouldn't be on much of a asking price. With cookie, parker, walker, longy and maybe bell, hadrill retiring and copping, rumble maybe gone and you still have to think about browne, dunn who are constantly injured you are up to 11 players(with Macca).Where is the pressure on the starting 22 for places if all these are replaced with young'uns

Sometimes you don't just think about next year, you think about the next 10 years. And the fact remains that we have a pitifully small group of players under 21.

And sometimes an injection of youth into the squad can get the most out of the team. Look at Port Adelaide. Call me crazy, but it's hard to see an aging, declining McManus putting too much pressure on many players in the club atm. Who it takes away from is blokes like Foster, Ibbo and Drum who can't build up the experience necessary to perform at the top level.

Spot on. It is not all done and dusted yet though.

Schwab did not want to discuss McManus’ contract yesterday but the player’s manager Dan Richardson was confident that he would play on. “I think both parties are yet to make a definite decision,” Richardson said.
