Thought I'd make a thread where we can discuss the most 'manly' beauty routine :o

Electric razors - ya or nay?

If yay, which ones do you recommend?

Which cream do you use?

Aftershave?

How often do you shave?

How long does it take for you to get a good shadow growing?

Tips to minimise cuts or get a closer shave?

For those that don't regularly shave, how long since your last shave and what do you sport?

Shave any body areas for sport?

etc etc

This thread is to discuss anything and everything regarding shaving.

Electric razors - ya or nay?

Nay, I use a Gillette Mach3 safety razor. Never have I cut my self shaving. Its one I'd highly recommend.

Which cream do you use?
Gillette Mach3 Nitro Shave Gel. I haven't been satisfied with it so I think I'll change brands once the canister is empty.

Aftershave?
Ferrari Black by Ferrari and/or Code Black by Giorgio Armani.

How often do you shave?
About once every three days or so.

How long does it take for you to get a good shadow growing?
About a week. I'm about 20 years of age yet I've got hardly any noticeable facial hair. :o

Tips to minimise cuts or get a closer shave?
I wouldn't have the slightest of clues. A safety razor wouldn't go astray nor would shaving for a second time(?).

I tell ya I damned well hate shaving but have to do it because of my work. Otherwise I'm sure I would be a hobo-looking shagface if I had the real choice.

I use the Gillette cream... spread it on with the hands normally - what difference will a brush make, really? I think my old man uses a brush though I've never really been given the old father-son shaving lesson.

Very rarely get cuts, but also very rarely get that close a shave. I'm at a point where I just about need to shave every day (24 years old) and hate that idea, hah!

Every now and again I shave in the shower too... without a mirror so use my hands to feel where its needed, that's probably the only time I get a really close shave!

Will be interested to hear any tips.

i used to use mach 3 razors and they were good but at $27 a pop for a pack of 4 which would last around 3 weeks i thought **** that. bought an electric for $399 and get just as close a shave without any burn or nicks. it's paid for itself already.
we should start a thread on aftershave alone, have used fahrenheit for years and absolutely love it. not cheap but the girls like it also.

I shave with mach 3's. I use a mixture of King of Shaves Oil and Shaving Gel, whip it into a lather and apply. I always shave in the shower, the steam opens the pours and you get a cleaner shave. I have a shower mirror which helps. I finish off with Nivea Sensitive skin aftershave balm.

With the above, I never get a rash and I shave regularly. I have tried electrics before, but all they did was rash me up.

Shave 3 times a week. With job it looks like a 3 day shadow after a day, a wash usually thins it out. Use whatever razor is near the shower, the Mrs sometimes buys me a good one whenever she wants me clean shaven.(approx 6 times a year). Shave in shower so use fingers and hands. I found womens razors are hard to get up under the nose and usually do them bits in front of a mirror with a blunter/older mens razor. Only use aftershave for weddings, funerals etc. No need for any of the girlie stuff. Electric razors are only good if you use them everyday.

Just make sure never to use Veet mousse on your genitals, definitely overrated.

Why? I've blade shaven my nuts for years.

Yeah I blade shave em too, you have to be careful though and stretch them out, give the blade a smooth surface to work on.

I used a electric head shaver once or twice as well (with no guard), that was seriously dangerous. I nicked a little wrinkle on my sack and god damn that thing hurt, bled like crazy too.

Bit of graphic description there, but we're all blokes in here so I'm sure it's cool :thumbsu:

I use both a Gilette Fusion and a Schick Quattro (because they sent it to me free just as my old Quattro wore out. hah).
Quattro's certainly much more comfortable but the Fusion makes quicker work of it.

I use King of Shave antiseptic stuff and sometimes a bit of Gilette Fusion gel.

Works fairly well.

I shave every 2-3 days. Can't stand a stubble getting too long, it itches too much.

Electric razors - ya or nay?

Had one when I first started. Only use it to trim sideburns and stuff nowadays

My normal razor of choice is mach3 turbo

Which cream do you use?

Usually Gilette shaving gel but have just changed brands to nivea for men gel. Like it so far.

Aftershave?

Use an aftershave balm straight after shaving.

In terms of actual aftershave/cologne the main two are Hugo Boss and Fierce by Abercrombie & Fitch.

How often do you shave?

Every 3 days or so.

How long does it take for you to get a good shadow growing?

Next day

Tips to minimise cuts or get a closer shave?

None

I use a DE razor with derby blades.
Change blades about every 4 days. Get a packet of 5 for about $2.

Wouldn't go anywhere near canned goo.
Currently using Crabtree and Evelyn Sandalwood with a C&E badger brush.
Finish it off with jurlique aftershave balm.

I dislike shaving immensely. I only shave once every 10 days or so, even then I just trim it down to stubble. Last time I was completely clean shaven was August last year.

Gillete mach3 turbo as well. I shave once or twice a week, depends. I'm not very hairy so I can get away with it for a few days before it just looks crap. I hate shaving.

Slightly off topic, but what is the best beard to have? I suppose it depends on face structure, but I'm quite pale skinned and figure I need some facial hair to give my face some colour.

Is a chin strap an option? Or does that look terrible?

$60 electric razors. One of the biggest wastes of money ever.

From experience, I fell for this con when I brought a cheap Remington one, you need to use a product called pre-shave to get the hairs to stick up to cut them properly, had not idea where you could get that, and the razor as a whole was as useless as a piece of plastic.

Normally use Mach3's or any cheap 3-bladed disposables, do a much better job.

Hate shaving with a passion, lucky I look ok with stubble,at least that's what I'm told.

Never had any luck with electric shavers at all, no matter how expensive. I've got a collection of Gillette and Schick razors at home, work and girlfriends place, damned if I can remember what they are, Mach 3 and Titanium something or other rings a bell, if I can't remember what one I have when buying blades I just buy another unit, they're cheap enough.

Any shaving cream that happens to be handy, all seem similar and I cut myself regardless of cream/razor combination.

I just use moisturiser with sun block, no aftershave. Apparently I smell "nice" without adding a fragrance. ;)

.

Isn't shaving just the most annoying thing ever, I hate it and refuse to do it for as long as I can. Just recently I didn't shave for a month and had a nice length of beard going, turned about 4 different colours though. I am now just going to shave everyday so I don't have to put up with the pain of shaving heaps of hair of.

As for the razor I use, I have a gilette something or other, it's pretty basic but it gets the job done. Don't use any aftershave but I think I will start soon.

-mach 3 turbo for sure (agree it pisses you off to buy blades for 24+ bucks a pack lol)
-Nivea for men foam, kicks gillette foam all day long
