Shaving

If you're worried about cost, get onto an electric shaver... larger initial outlay, but your replacement razor fees are gone... pays for itself in a year.

I used to by the pack of 15s , not needing to shave every day ( at the time) they lasted quite a while. I would say the pack of 15s would last 2-3 months

I use an electric razor. I have a shaved head so in the morning I just go over my whole head with my Philishave and I find it leaves a nice fuzz which looks good.

Anyway, I've been trying to decide if I want an electric shaver but it seems near impossible to find more than a few decent reviews on the same shaver before you see a couple of really negative ones that change your mind.

Is it really worth switching from a blade to an electric shaver? The only issue I have with the blade is it can be time consuming if I'm in a hurry, but I'm just trying to get some opinions anyway.

If you do use an electric shaver, what is the best one you've owned?

I'm proudly sporting a brand new beard and love it! Seriously, how underatted are beards? Goatees suck balls, beards are sensational (full beards, not the razor thin muzza variety).

Any feeback on the itrim ?

I have xmas and b/day on the same day and have been asked what i need/want.
Thought of it the other day when my dad aksed what i wanted.

Has anyone used it and is it worth getting ?

Been going the unshaved verging on beard for the last few weeks, but then shave it off and start again... Need to get a decent trimmer to keep it in check. Still do like the unshaved look, I just get lazy and it gets over the top.

Im a Gillette Fusion man, 5 blades of smoothness.
Also use King of Shaves gel, its really good stuff.

Used to use an electric razor but i found it took too long to get a close enough shave and it pretty much just ripped the hairs out rather than cut them

My mate comes to me and goes ****ing hell I cut myself shaving and im like wtf where and she goes, on my ankles and im liek wtf you have hair on your ankles?!!!!!

Tend to agree vonn, it's pretty difficult to cut yourself shaving yet so many people seem to achieve this feat.

I've used conditioner in the past, but not for the reason you mentioned. I used it as part of the shaving prep stage just before applying shaving cream, as conditioner helps to soften the facial hair which reduces its resistance while shaving it off.

I've tried just about every shaving product out there but for the last few years my rig has been:

Wet shaving with all this kit provides the closest, least irritable and most economical shave I've ever had. I have not used a disposable cartridge razor and foam cans for years and would never use them again; they are for amateurs, and it's what they hand out to crims in prison! Once you've made the switch to double edge, you can't go back.

Haha...true, true, I wasn't going to venture there though...I don't think people need to know my personal shaving habits. ;)

At any rate, if she says she cleaned up properly, then there shouldn't be little curly hairs there...that's really slack! I can't stand to leave stuff on my own razor, let alone someone else's...

Oh shit, I think I just threw up in my mouth a little....:(

Not a fan of shaving at at all and pretty lazy the way I go about it.

Electric shavers are shit, so like most I stick to the trusty Mach 3.

Usually shave on a Monday, Wednesday and Saturday and only really do because I need to look presentable for work and for going out.

On the Friday it starts to look a bit rough so I usually just shave the top lip and claim it's designer stubble that way and not just being lazy.

A few people have PM'ed me asking about wet shaving and where to buy a rig from. Instead of replying to each person individually it's easier if I do it here. So here goes...

I bought most of my kit online from the US a few years ago. However a few places in Oz stock them these days so this should be a cheaper option as you'll save on shipping. At quick glance, mensbiz.com.au seems quite good with a large range and well priced.

For my double edge razor I have both the Merkur 1904 and the Classic. I prefer the 1904 as it is lighter and not so heavy on the face. The best $45 you will ever spend as it will last you forever.

For the shaving brush, I have an entry level badger hair brush, which has done me well over a number of years. Badger is better than boar hair as it holds the water for longer (which gives a better wet shave) and is softer on the face. The Vulfix $50 brush is fine for starters:

For the shaving cream I use Proraso. $12 a tube and lasts me about 3 months with 3-4 shaves a week. I've also recently started using the Proraso Pre & post cream as well, which helps to prep the beard before applying the shaving cream so that the hairs come off easier with less strokes, leading to less irritation:

For the razor blades I haven't found a place in Oz that stocks the ones I use, being the Israeli Super+ Persona blades. You can get them on ebay shipped from the US for about $30 for 100 blades, which would normally last me a year. A lot more economical than disposable cartridge razors and with a better result

Now to put it all together and use it, I recommend these vids as a starting point:

Good luck!
