... to have the draft changed:

http://www.afl.com.au/news/story_234824.htm

What a load of crap. Sheedy whines that his club won't be rewarded for finishing first. Well sorry Kev, you get a cup for that. What does he want - a couple more picks in the first round? Why have a draft at all? Or a salary cap? And the concession (even if all three clubs qualify, which is by no means a given) gives this year's premier 19th as opposed to 16th pick. Boo bloody hoo.

And comparing the present draft concession to the concessions received by the Eagles in the late 80's is just misleading. He says that "with all the draft concessions they've enjoyed over the past 15 or so years, it could be argued the West Australians are already way out in front", without providing any actual support for that argument. And you always get suspicious when people (ie Sheedy, Howard et al) start referring to vague alleged Australian national traits to bolster their argument

Come on Kev, come out and say it - Collingwood, St Kilda, Fremantle (Brisbane?) can all get a concession pick but the Eagles shouldn't

I guess he forgot the concessions Essendon had in the 90's. Going from memory here, Lloyd, Misiti, Lucas and 2 other players were picked up with concessions.
What a Hypocrite

Those were concessions for players leaving Essendon not for Essendon finishing with less than 5 wins. Your comparing apples to Oranges.

A lot of the concessions the eagles did receive was from losing players to freo and port when they entered the competition.

We get critisized for getting concessions in the 90's, yet this year will be the first year we will receive them for winning less than 5 games, and that is not a guarantee yet either.

Whoah.......wait a minute and lets get this right. They're the same aren't they, they're both round, both fruit, both good to eat and the list goes on... :D

Yes, but it was Sheedy that said in the article, "I wonder if the Eagles will benefit again as they did when they first came into the AFL from concessions made through the draft". What were those concessions for?

Sheedy might want to concentrate on comparing apples and apples himself rather than dishing out snide backhanders, something he's getting very good at these days

IMO Sheedy should be reminded of certain salary cap issues that arose at essendon recently. Given the low conversion of draft picks into quality AFL players it is more important to attract and keep proven players.

Stuff drafting young players, I think the WA teams could learn a lot about creative book keeping and offering perks to attract players and keep them.
