For everyone calling it a disgrase WTF did you want them to do . Wait until the end of the year and then start looking ? Possibly take the 4th best coach available ?
I Kevin wants to spit the dummy and leave now that is his choice.
The club feels they need a new direction for next year. They have to start putting that in place. If Sheeds isnt happy coaching out the year then that is his choice.
Sheedy and Essendon had to end some day. If we signed him again we would still have to go though the same thing next year or the year after.

So the story goes that he was told his contract would not be renewed as he's gone out sulking like I predicted.

He would have behaved the same way after Round 22 even if we lost the next 6 games.

It had to come to this. He was never going to make it easy for us.

Thanks for the memories Kevin, but I'm looking to the future.
Hmm, plausible explanation.

It had to happen one day. Was a matter of timing. If they were thinking of not renewing at the end of 2007 then I think it is a very good call to do it now. Let him coach to the end of the season so the fans can farewell him. He deserves that. If the reports of him staying on as a mentor that is even better news for the bombers as they dont lose everything that is Kevin Sheedy. If you can get Voss as coach with Sheedy assisting that is an outstanding arrangement.

Well done Kevin Sheedy what a legend of the game! Put him in the Legends Hall of Fame now.

Wow

I never thought this day would come.

I'm sad in one way but also positive that there's something new and exciting around the corner.

I just wish we can send him off in some sort of way that will show our gratitude into what he's made the club over 27 years - the best in the AFL!

Thank Sheeds. :thumbsu:

Yeah exactly, I see a lot of disrepect claims here but what other way was there to do it. It's like staying with a girlfriend even if your over it, but you know you've got to make the tough decision at one stage, even if it's messy.

I'm very surprised that he's gone, I haven't been alive without Sheedy coaching Essendon, but the club's made a tough decision that had to made sooner rather than later. And now we're in the best position to find the best coach available. Not to be an arrogant supporter, but I'm sure a lot of coaches would find coaching Essendon a lot more appealing than coaching Carlton, Melbourne or Freo.

Essendon have always been good at getting the right people but that is only because they have more money than most clubs(in Victoria) and can afford to do what they like.

It's all about the dollar sign the AFL.

Shocked about Sheeds.

I went to the Bombers Pies game with a good friend of mine(who's a Bomber).

We both thought he'd get another 2 years.

I'd be wrapped if he came back to Tigerland but the question mark remains in a coaching capacity.

I know alot of you will be in a lot of pain over this and I feel sorry for you.

...take this pain and triple it and you will feel like a Tiger fan.

When Northey left Richmond after 95,I felt like a member of the family died...still have the pain inside from that moment.

The logic may befuddle you, but see if you can concentrate: We wanted them to keep the bloke who has taken Essendon to 4 premierships, 7 grand finals, 384 wins and just 220 losses. Who more than any other individual has influenced the direction of our game over the last 40 years.

No, I wouldn't think so. Essendon and Melbourne have an ageing list, or at least a number of top players that are around 30 or more. They would be the last two on my list .

Freo are still in the middle of something so you could get some immediate results. For long term prospects and potential I think Carlton would be the one they will go for first.

Good luck Kevin, I'm sure you will find some sort of job pretty soon

Very bad.Should haver waited till the end of the home and away season to discuss Sheedy's Future.FFS the bombers could be playing finals, why upset the apple cart.He is a great coach sad to see him go,but he'll be snapped up straight away.
The bombers are crazy if they make Voss the next coach.
Wouldn't they consider Garry O'donell,Daniher,or Harvey before Voss surely.
