You'd think they would be able to get an extra mic pointing the other way so we could hear some of the bloody questions!

I hope we throw everything we have, to gain the services of Bombers Thompson.

The board made the right decision if they had to get rid of him but I am unhappy about them telling us that they would not talk about his contract till several weeks time.

That was probably their intention but, after pagan got chopped the media were all over the place like a cheap suit.

they were never going to renew his contract so is it better to go now and give your club an even playing field in looking for a new coach or hang on for another few weeks, endure daily media speculation that would de stabilise things further and end up behind the game in the search for a new coach?

My opinion, right choice to go now. They had their hand forced and did the best they could.

I think it was the wrong time to do it. They should have waited till the end of the year. 27 years is a long time to coach and he has to go and some stage. I think now is the right time with the team on the rise and steadily improving.

He has given so much to the game and to the Essendon Football Club and I hope he still stays involved in Football. Best of luck to him in whatever he does.

The thing is, it gives the fans a chance to take in the last 6 weeks of Sheedy as coach and say farewell to the guy.
Also the club needs to find a replacement, and with 3 other clubs in the hunt, it makes it tough.
It's better than looking for another coach behind Sheedy's back.

Firstly, HE WASN'T SACKED!!!!!!!
You people who jumped the gun before the press conference should have known better.
Those who are happy with this need a kick up the pants too. In essence, we better have a better record than 8-8 at this time next year, what will you people say if we don't???? The pressure will be on the new coach.
As for this week, if I was a player I would run through a wall for the man.
I wish him all the best if he gets a job next year, if we can't win a flag I hope Sheeds can to stick it up the board.

With the coaching merry-go-round in full swing, it was really now or never. If we put it off til the end of the season, and then decided that Sheedy wasn't required - then we would have been stuck with the 'left over' coaches.

Personally i hope that we get someone like McKenna - i would be livid if we got Voss - unless we kept sheeds on in a coaching director managment type role - Voss is too green behind the ears.

Ok, I don't know about you but I found it hard to work today with this all going on!

That was sarcasm, I was inferring I was going to apply for the coaching job.

I'm partly excited, partly saddened and most of all, extremely pleased with the way KS handled himself.

Footy stirs up a lot of emotions at any level...I don't really know what to say.

Thanks Kev.

I love the man!!! Legend.
If I was a player I would run through a wall on Sunday for him!!!!

Have to agree Longy , this bit pretty much sums it up.

I'm still in shock. I never thought this day will arrive.
Sheedy has seen Essendon through some enormous changes in the game. When he began, he was the sole coach and had another job; now they have a panel of full-time coaches. When he began there were 12 clubs, all based in Victoria; and games were played on suburban grounds.
The one constant in football, Sheedy coaching Essendon, has gone. Generations who have never known football without Sheeds in the Bomber coaching box will be faced with the unfamiliar sight of someone else in that job. Football won't be the same.

Sheedy was an innovator and a visionary; and one of the greatest coaches ever in the history of the game. He will be sadly missed.

From a Bomber fanatic in Sydney - thanks for everything Sheeds. Hold your head up, you have every right to be proud of what you have achieved for our club and our game.

Peter Jackson said something alaong the lines of "We will go out and find the very best coach that is available atm"

.....isn't that Sheedy?

I love Sheedy. He has done so much for the sport and in particulary your club. Atleast you guys gave him to the end of the season so he can hopefully see it out with Jimmy and maybe even play finals. What a true champ in Sheedy. May he move on to bigger and better things. Go Sheeds!:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Sheeds and Hird are going out together and the EFC is starting a new era.

Yes, it is both extremely sad and exciting at the same time.

Now that name is interesting as it has been actually thrown in the mix for both the Freo and Essendon jobs my sources tell me. And they are pretty good sources.

Simon Eastaugh may be the Ross Lyon of this coach search. The curve ball nobody expected.

You may be right there nobby but have the feeling that peter jackson was in sheedy's corner the whole time, thats why they went there together.

After 24 hours to think this over the only dissapointing thing is that the board blatantly lied to supporters, there needs to be something sone there, maybe will happen at the agm.

Understand timimg and gratefull that at least we can show sheedy how gratefull we are for the last 27 years. Just like we have been doing with hird all season (the cheers when he comes on/off the ground are awesome and now sheedy will get his accolades he deserves for making us a great club)
