How can you form an opinion on the veracity of aspects of self-realisation, without having self-realised, or even attempted to enter into these states of consciousness?

Isn't that a bit like saying how can I make a judgment on scientology and it's notion of thetan bodies, e-meters and xenu without experiencing it's effects?

I am referring to the concept of Enlightenment as taught by the likes of Gurdjieff, which is brought about by intensive meditation and eventual elimination of the ego, and not some loose psychological term used by the likes of Maslow.

They exist.
Just saw this on youtube. Pretty good I reckons.

THE BIGGEST MARKETING PROBLEM IS "EXPERTS"

Since 1990, the biggest marketing problem we have had is that almost all so called "exercise experts", who know nothing about our ROM machine and have never tried a 4 minute ROM workout, will happily declare that a 4 minute complete workout is absolutely impossible and that it flies in the face of everything they believe in and have learned. The same "experts" become immediate believers after only a single 4 minute ROM workout. Most people who become somewhat convinced about the possibility of a highly effective 4 minute workout will wish to obtain the opinion of an "expert" before they might take this leap of faith and the "experts" in turn immediately kill a sale for us and deprive the potential customer from purchasing the most efficient lifelong health improvement and health maintenance tool.

There are many naturalist Buddhists who impose their ideas about Buddhism and the nature of energy on everyone.

The best quote from the video is from the Master Dogen:

Do not follow the ideas of others; learn to listen to the voice within yourself. (...plus...) Your body and mind will become clear and you will realize the unity of all things.

This is not the mindless voice that tells you you want a flash car to show off to your mates, then tells you you need a burger; the "voice" he is talking about is the illuminating void. It is within there that you can begin to experience what is known as 'truth'.

You may get echoes of the truth within philosophy books and some pretty YouTube vids, but more often than not they are just the "ideas of others" that you are "following". That very much includes listening to me, and why I say there is only one way to have any effing idea whatsoever what the the likes of Gautama, Plato, Ibn Arabi etc. were talking about.
