Well there will be coaches in India by the end of January, so unsure if that means players will be heading over then as well?

First test is 23rd of February, but surely there will be a tour game or 2?
It depends how weak they want to make the T20 and ODI sides in the lead up to it. The last ODI is 17/2 and the last T20 is the day before the Test starts. 5 of our current ODI squad played last test, with a few others potentially on the cusp of both like Marsh x2, Maxwell and Usman.

Champions Trophy next year. I dare say we may look to get some wins under the belt.

Of the current batting lineup, I could see them taking Khawaja, Handscomb, Renshaw and Wade over early to acclimatise to conditions. Warner and Smith probably don't need it. Maybe the no6 and reserve batsman as well.

If Champions Trophy next year then they will probably have a couple of players to look at in the ODI squad but the T20 squad will definitely be a T20 specialist side with no test players involved.

It's an international trophy. Wanna bet that we'll be going there to win it?
They'll be preparing for it now.
Of course you try to win it. Just saying it's equivalent of winning the NAB Cup.

And? They'll be preparing the side now. It's less than a year away, why do you think there's a spike in ODI's this summer. Starting this December.

Might be time to bring Gregory in perhaps?
Interesting call

Our Futures team bowling attack got destroyed by Peter Forrest last game so no one is really banging the door down

Gregory could even bat at 6 and come in as the replacement for Head. Play three quicks, a spinner plus Gregory.

Great win by the Vics

Pretty meek rollover from the Redbacks. Thought we'd gone past all that. Making 400 and having the opposition 5/131 in reply it's hard to believe we lost the game so easily.

Question marks - Kelvin Smith as an opener. Has now played 14 Shield games and averages 23. Do we keep persevering? One half century in four shield games this season. Who are the other options?

Fourth bowler? Zampa heads off to Aussie one day duty and misses the next Shield game. Do we play a fourth quick? If so, who? Otherwise which spinner gets the nod? Haven't been particularly impressed by Andrews or Cormack so far but early days.

Travis Head also misses due to the one dayers. Is Ferguson vice captain? Which batter replaces him - Alex Ross?

Raphael will probably come in for Kelvin Smith, can't say i'm too fussed over who plays out of those 2. Fourth quick will likely be Benton unfortunately, I just don't rate him at all and would personally like to see Grant given a run. Ross is a certainty to come in.

Smith is doing a good job seeing off the new ball spell he just keeps getting out. Might be worth 1 more chance but Raphael is in pretty good 2nd xl form isn't he? So could see that swap being made.

Ross for Head is a certainty.

Think they should (depending on the pitch) take a look at one of the spinners as not sure Zampa has a guaranteed spot all year - doesn't spin it enough esp for a leggie

Ferguson would want to pull his finger out or he will find himself dropped from Australia & south Australia inside the same season.

Given its a day night test I think 4 bowlers will be enough for SA without the need for an AR. Wouldn't mind Agar or pretty much anyone getting a game ahead of Benton.

Looks like Raphael in for Head

Andrews in for Zampa

Benton out

Will be between Andrews and Grant for the 4th bowling spot. Reckon they'll lean towards the spinner rather than go with four quicks.

Well that's a massive step in the wrong direction. He's 29 and has 4 half centuries in 38 first class innings.

He is a good fielder though.

Think he's got the best 2nd XI form behind him though.

Always seems to be in the runs whenever I bother to check the scores

Still surprised Ross went from 12th man to not playing
