Cartwright's career Shield numbers, as we speak:

Batting - 40.24 average (4 hundreds, 11 fifties, 5 ducks)
Bowling - 54.50 average, 79.61 strike rate, 4.10 economy rate

It's the idea that he is or should be an all-rounder that's the problem. Probably taken a lot of focus away from his batting.

Interestingly, he's bowled just 11 overs in 5 1/2 Shield matches so far this season. WA is hardly struggling for bowling talent, so they don't really need him to bowl anyway, but perhaps both player and state have realised that he's just not a bowler.

Interestingly, Stoinis' vast improvement as a bowler continues. He is becoming a genuine all-rounder.
Hush now. Let me fish in peace

Not looking like such a road for WA?

It's a road. The one thing WA have is a half decent attack; well two decent quicks anyway. The batting, on the other hand, is useless. The under 19's would put up more of a fight than most of these overrated hacks.

Cartwright has had one good season where he averaged over 50. He’s a one hit wonder. Stoinis has never delivered with the bat for WA; averaged 17 in his first two seasons back. He’s becoming a bowler who can handle a bat.

Oh boy tough times for Wa in the Shield.
No Shield win since 1998-99 coming up to 20 years.
Between 1971-1999.28 years.Wa won the Sheffield Shield 13 times.Thoes where the days.

Whiteman, Paris, Behrendorff, NCN and now Agar it seems is a lot of talent to have in no man’s land.

Really feeling the loss of Klinger/Voges - Shaun did well in that senior role when playing but clearly lacking that presence this game. Should have thrown some coin at a White or Bailey to come here for a few seasons and lead the order while Carder, Philippe, Guthrie etc. get some exposure.

Whatever happened to Sam Whiteman? Was almost next in line for a baggy green before getting injured

Surprised someone didn't try and get White into their team when he's playing as well as he ever has and is not guaranteed a game each week. He's also one of the best leaders in Australian cricket. It's actually a real shame to see him in and out of the side after everything he's done.

IMO WA have a problem developing players. Agar has gone backwards. Harris only came good after moving to Victoria. Same thing with Stoinis (and he’s regressed since coming back to WA). You could argue that Mitch Marsh is in that group too. Has a lot more talent that the output he’s producing.

NSW stick Edwards down the order and let him develop there while WA move Phillipe from the middle order to open and then drop him when he doesn’t perform. Meanwhile someone like Wells, with an average this season of under 9, comes into the side.

Playing grade cricket and futures league without putting any big scores up. Hasn’t really forced his way into the side. Although he’s probably gotten better as the seasons gone on, but seems to get a lot of 30’s.

I think he had a light crack in another finger as well this season.

Shaun marsh should be available for WA selection if he doesnt get s decent score this year match.
Hes there for leadership and maturity as well as runs
